No To War Against Iraq

The Enfield United Nations Association requests people in the UK to sign the UK United Nations petition asking people to make it clear to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom that no military action should be taken against Iraq without full United Nations approval.
We the undersigned believing that neither United nations Security Council resolution 687(1991) nor any subsequent resolutions authorize military action against Iraq, including resolution 1368 (2001) adopted in response to the terrorist attacks in America on 11 September, as no evidence exists linking the perpetrators of those attacks to the Iraqi Government;

Concerned also that any military action against Iraq would have massive and disastrous repercussions in the Middle Ease region;

Concerned that all aspects of human society must be enshrined in any decisions taken;

Call upon the Prime Minister and the British Government to work tirelessly in the Security Council to

· End forthwith those economic sanctions against Iraq which are contributing to the unnecessary and tragic suffering of so many Iraqis as shown in UNICEF and other United Nations reports;
· Secure agreement for the weapons inspectors of the United Nations Monitoring and verification Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) to enter and complete its inspections without further let or hindrance;
· Ensure that no military action is taken against Iraq without the Council’s explicit authorisation and then only as a last resort if the Iraqi Government refuses to admit UNMOVIC inspectors;
· Investigate Saddam Hussein and those around him for alleged war crimes against humanity and, if a case is found to exist, indict them and establish an international criminal tribunal to try them.
