Tell Stephen Harper to Protect Omar Khadr

Tell Stephen Harper to Protect Omar Khadr

Target:
Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada
Sponsored by:

There is new evidence that Omar Khadr, a Canadian detainee in Guantanamo Bay, has been mistreated since his detainment in 2002, when he was just 15 years old.  The Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, says that he asked for assurances that Khadr was not being mistreated, but Khadr's lawyers claim the Canadian government knew about Khadr's treatment and did nothing about it.  To add insult to injury, Harper says that he will not ask the US to repatriate Khadr.

Demand that the Canadian government protect its citizens and make sure that they are not being mistreated while being detained.

Dear Prime Minister Harper,We the undersigned are concerned about the mistreatment of Omar Khadr.  There is recent evidence that he has been mistreated in Guantanamo Bay.  Despite this, your government continues to do very little about this issue.  Please protect your citizens by demanding that he be treated well.

It disgusts me that the Harper Government has abandoned this boy/now man who was a child soldier trapped at Guatanamo after he followed the orders of his terrorist father. What part of "Canadian citizen" does the current party in power NOT understand? God help Omar and God help Canada!

My primary reason for signing this is not out of "concern for Canada's reputation" or any other such complaint. My concern is two-fold: a) he's a citizen, and should be afforded every consideration, no matter how repugnant he is, and b) cases such as these, with their whiff of disregard for the rule of law, only serve to fuel Taliban propaganda.

Intelligence sharing between the US and Canadian governments is turning into a collusion against minorities in this so-called war on terror. If we don't want to take a stand against American policy let's at least protect our own citizens against these travesties.

This is disgusting. Canada's reputation as a leader in setting the standards for human rights is becoming rapidly tarnished with its refusal to protect this former child soldier.

Sadly, it is my belief that maybe "most" of us living in Canada.."know" that Mr. Harper is a very Large "Yes Sir" to Dear George!! I "know and feel" very much so, that what Harper is doing is very wrong..I hope, pray and trust, that signing this and all other petitions I sign..will..some day be seen by those who CAN make this change(s)..then I will feel we-the common folk--have TRULY Made it all Worthwhile..!Ty..Sharon, from Newfoundland, Canada!

I am so disgusted with the lack of compassion and courage Mr. Harper is showing in this situation. No matter what he is accused of Khadr was 15 when all this occurred, which makes him a child. He should not be kept in a prison that's very existance violates human rights. He should be guaranteed a fair trial which he will not get from a military court. Even an adult has the right to these things. It is unbelievable that Mr. Harper is allowing a child to be so abused.

Please rescue him from Guantanamo. He was a child when he was made to do terrible things. Take him back to Canada and give him the treatment he needs.

Will every country allow the George and Dick Show to intimidate them? Come on, somebody, somewhere has got to stand up to these two bufoons. As an American in Finland, I ask you, PK Harper, to be the one.
