We the undersigned stand opposed to the proposal by the Toronto District School Board, the City of Toronto, and the North Toronto Soccer Club to place artificial turf on the Memorial Park soccer field and erect a three storey high dome over part of the field during the winter months.
The proposal fails to take into account parking difficulties in the area, existing traffic problems as a result of heavy arena and park use, environmental concerns related to the installation and maintenance of the field, economic concerns over the long term viability of the project and any resulting impact on taxpayers, safety issues, loss of green space, lack of community access to the field, and devaluation of surrounding residential properties.
We do not oppose the improvement of the soccer field. We do oppose the installation of artificial turf and the erection of a three storey high dome over our park.
We signed the "HELP STOP THE MEMORIAL PARK DOME" petition!

To whom it may concern,
I use this park every week to play with my kids. We do not want to see this dome built. My kids play soccer with the same group that proposes this but I will withdraw them from that group if it goes through. There are plenty of things for kids to do during the winter. They do not have to play soccer year round.

Can you NOT leave a little bit of GREEN in the CITY.
Where will our children go to play?
Where will our families meet to enjoy a bit of GREEN in this area so populated
with apartments.
LEAVE THIS GREEN SPACE!

As the population density with all the high rises increases we need more open greenspace, not less. This space is used by the entire community throughout the year - why would we want to make this space resrticted to a much smaller community.

I am concerned with traffic congestion, cost, loss of green space, and of an unsightly dome.

Toronto is a densely populated city - we need to conserve green space whereever possible. This dome will be in my neighborhood - and I don't want it here!!!!

The park is more than just a place to play soccer. It is a green space that can be used in many different ways. The dome prevents that.
The dome also restricts use of this commons, which is a loss to the community and the city as a whole.
Finally, domes are ugly, noisy, and more costly to upkeep.

Who pays when the resevoir beneath this structure needs repair? Lets rewiden Chaplin back to its former size to handle the increased traffic and parking needed. Lets paint the sucker so it blends in with the open space it replaces. Lets hire more police to keep out the undesirables during school recess and in the off hours, since the back side will not be visible. This structure is a change of use to the public space which denies access to the majority. North Toronto Soccer Association may rent park space, but they have no special status to exclusive use. Its also Uggggly! NIMBY NIMBY NIMBY. Why not locate in Nathan Phillips Square?

I am a senior and use thispark to walk in every day. It is nice to be able to be outdoors. Expecially when we are locked in our houses over the winter days.
Please do not put a dome up and take away the pleasure of all who use it. Such LITTLE green space left in our city...don't take this away too.

Primary concern: Increased parking during snow build-up / clearance may make Chaplin impassabale (private traffic and buses).
