On October 9, 2009, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) brought the proposed bill H.R. 3548 to give federal unemployment benefit extensions to all 50 states because he recognizes the urgent needs of the people. However, that same day Republican Senator Jon Kyl from Arizona stalled his efforts for speedy passage by asking for more time to consider the bill that would help keep a roof over many Americans heads and keep food on their tables.
The bill was scheduled to return to the senate for additional review and vote on October 13, 2009. Most people thought that it would pass without further delay because of the overwhelming need. During the September 22, 2009, House vote on the bill Congressman Levin Sander (D-MI-12) stated that 15 million Americans are now unemployed the highest number since 1939. Well, after hearing that we were all convinced that our great country knew and understood our plight but more importantly that they would not allow us to suffer, not in America.

I am a widowed mom of 2 children still at home and in High School. I am a professional nanny by trade. I lost my job in the beginning of August 2008. I have been actively interviewing and using all resources including several online and in person agencies and I can not find employment. It seems that people are placing their children in daycares to save money and no one wants to hire a nanny now. Please, it is wonderful for this nation to stand by other nations and send money, food, volunteers etc. but right now YOUR people are in dire straights. Hard working Americans like me who are responsible for others. If my unemployment benefits run out next month before I can find employment I will lose my home (I rent so I'll be evicted if I cannot pay), my car, it will be disastrous. Please continue extended benefits for Americans who need it!! PLEASE!! God Bless America where the down and out, the sick and the poor can be helped.

I have sent my resume to HUNDREDS of companies in my area and for my 6 months of unemployment, I've received 2 interviews. I AM A REAL PERSON WHO IS UNEMPLOYED. My original UI benefits expire March 6, 2010. I CANNOT get ANY extensions, etc, beyond the first and only 26 weeks. I CANNOT find a job. I will be homeless by April, ultimately. Why wouldn't I at least be offered ONE extension as SO many others were? I am so flabbergasted and concerned that I don't even know what to say or do.

i am a marine corps veteran and have gone into the middle east on many occassions. I had done so on my own free will..At the same time the economy was great and my wife as well as I was making great money and paying our taxes. We started a family and bought a new home. Not by any bad contract through our loan company we lost our home-foreclosure- the banks were making bad loans and everyone suffers as an effect. My wife lost her job as a salesman for a steel company cause everyone stopped buying and her clients stopped paying so her 90 thousand dollar job was lost. I am going to start schhool and hopefully get a good job. We are seperated cause of all the stress that was a direct effect. I need more unemployment

President Obama please be aware that many Michigan people are having great difficulties finding jobs after being laid off and dispite the effort of many to find jobs, they are few. The extentions on unemployment are the only thing keeping families together. My final extention will end with the December 31, 09 deadline Congress put in place and you signed. Unfortunately I am eligible for 14 weeks more but was informed I would not see that money because of the deadline. I do not know how I am going to survive a already terrrible last year. I will have no money at all and have tried to find a job in the healthcare field from which I was laid off after 13 years at the same hospital clinic. I have spent many hours on the phone helping seniors or disabled patient get free medicines from drug companies so they could continue to take medicines they MUST take. Now I feel like all the good work I have done in 13 years was for nothing. I feel hopeless. Please revise the Dec 31, 09 deadline for not just me but for all out in this country that will have a long, cold, hungry, hopeless winter with no money to keep the electric, heat or food in our homes. sincerely ellen

Right now with a national 10% unemployment rate (was 10.2% in prior month) that is still too high we need to extend financial unemployment benefits again to Americans looking for work who are presently unemployed, extend COBRA health benefits to the unemployed, pass real healthcare reforms with mandated competition and cost containment measures to bring the needed cost savings Americans need and our federal government needs to pay down the federal budget deficits and national debt; make MediCare and MediCaid more financially solvent and extend SCHIP -- the national State Children Health Insurance Program a public health insurance program for kids and focus on job creation. When more Americans have a job there's more taxpayers to generate revenue from and more revenue to spread around even if tax rates are low there's more people paying taxes. Don't give in to Republican and corporate special interests. Do right by the American public now! |

please extends the uneployment benefits in iowa for all non working people. my husband lost his job in august and his benefits end the first week in janurary. we have a total of 4 childre to support. god please help us. i can only do so much and with everything going so high we can barly make it now with his check. but when it ends in the first week in janurary. if there isnt an extension. i dont know what we will have to do. it scares me just to think about it. my husband is on 2 different aniexty meds because he gets so worked up about money and jobs he can keep and meals down. please help up. we all are begging you.

I have two boys and I have now enrolled in college online to better my ability to search for work. I am about to be evicted from my house. I need this extension or I will be homeless, with a 11year old and a 11 month old. Everyday this is delayed we are a day closer to being homeless.

Im a 47 year old women with a morage and a 15 year old still in school .My husband is disabled . I was layed off Cause of a surgery I need on my neck and the company did not want to take the chance on having to pay for it.((even thought my doctor wrote a letter saying it had nothing to do with my job)) They layed me off knowing there was no work and unemployment was high they did not care that I was one of there top management and they were hireing and still are,...((Company McDonald's in Addison county Vermont)) Nor did they care I had a home and family. They need to still replace my job and have not they have tryed.... I won unemployment hand's down,,(( cause they said they had to let me go cause of my heath.. Then they said I had promblem's with them and when unemployment asked what kind and to show them the paper works (They had none) So then they said they did not kow I had any heath promblems at all)) I won in April when they let me go. I have been out there every week trying to find work it started out at 6-7-8 jobs a week now Im at 3 if Im lucky even to find them at all (and Im looking for all kinds of work)) Anyways I have ran out of state unemployment now Im on the Obma's extension and that will run in 18 week's. I know and have faith this will turn around but we have to hit rock bottom first and we are not there as yet . So, with out the other extension that he is trying to pass I will be next on the street and not be able to pay my bills with millons or others . So please please I beg you to extension again for us poor.
