I am the owner of a 2006 Chevy Cobalt with approximately 47000 miles. Recently, my wife was driving to the grocery store with my two small children when the power steering went out. Fortunately, she was able to gain control of the vehicle and bring it to a stop on the side of the road. After turning the car off and then back on the power steering returned to normal. This has happened several more times after the incident. My wife was able to get the car to a mechanic who informed her that the electronic power steering motor is going bad and that we were not the first to have this problem. We also found that this car has a recall on its fuel injectors as well as the head liner not properly padded for safety. Currently, no recall on the power steering problem. I believe that this is a known problem with chevrolet but not enough people have come forward and complained about the problem. I urge you to sign this petition so that chevrolet will see that this is not an isolated incident and take the
necessary steps to correct it.

I have 78,000 miles on my 2006 chevy cobalt. My 17 year old daughter was driving it late last night and lost the power steering on the car as she was turning a curve. She was lucky because she was on a country road driving slow and being cautious because of the deer crossing. If it would of been another time or place I believe she would of had an accident. I didn't realize there was a problem like this until I started searching on line. I am shocked that there is this many problems and GM won't do something about it. She was able to control it at the speed she was going. If she was going any faster she would not of been able to control it. Is it going to take someone to die from this before the recall? I am looking into estimates on how to fix this problem. However, if it cost as much as I've read from others I will be selling the car and buying something else then CHEVY.

My 2006 Cobalt LT Coupe had the same exact problem, with just 13,000 miles on it! The steering wheel locked up and the ABS and engine warning lights flashed on, making the car undriveable. The entire steering column had to be replaced for a hefty fee. Now I just have to worry that it will happen again.

ALL Cobalts are VERY dangerous with this condition, as are the other models and brands. Mine has this condition too. I have a teenage son who just got his temps and it happened to him the second day he drove. Luckily I was with him and told him what to do or he would have crashed head on into the oncoming lane where cars were doing 55 MPH. This is CRAZY!! Chevy need to recall ALL these cars right away!!
THE TIME TO STOP BUYING GM VEHICLES IS NOW!! THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND GM IS STILL MAKING CARS THAT USE THIS DANGEROUS, AND CHEAP POWER STEERING PUMP!! GM NEEDS TO BE SUED BIG TIME!! GM REFUSES TO RECALL CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM!! GM MUST BE STOPPED!!
ANY LAWYERS OUT THERE WILLING TO HELP STOP GM FROM ENDANGERING EVERYONE ANYWHERE NEAR ANY OF THESE VEHICLES???????? PLEASE HELP!! IT COULD BE YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER THAT THIS PROBLEM KILLS!!

My Cobalt is an 06'. Why on earth do i need to replace a whole steering column ALREADY!!!!!!! My car is 3 yrs old not 13...just ridiculous. It will cost me $800. I am severely upset. Come to find out this is very common with the Cobalts. This should be recalled and fixed on behalf of the Chevrolet company. When the power steering light comes on and the steering locks...u can turn the engine off and start it up and it's back to normal. Why? And, why the whole steering column needs replaced is crazy. What happened to power steering fluid?

I own a 2006 Cobalt LS. 65,000mi. I just encountered the key stuck in ignition problem and in looking for an answer and solution to this common problem, I discovered an alarming amount of complaints about the power steering and airbag problems. This if frightening! I live in Oregon ie many steep hills, sharp curves, log trucks, and 9 months of rain! If my power steering suddenly goes out in any of these situations I will surely be DEAD! After only 2 hours of reading complaints online I have come to the conclusion that these are not isolated problems but are STANDARD on ALL the Chevy Cobalt models!! How long will it take for GM to realise it and actually do something about it? How many have to die before we get a recall? Where is the responsability? I am sure they have probably determined that it will be cheaper to fight or settle lawsuits that may arise instead of recalling all of these vehicles. This is rediculous! I am scared to drive my car now and I seriously want out of this vehicle! I am very sorry for those who have already lost thier lives or loved ones to these issues!! It is no wonder that people don't want to buy sub-standard american products from companies that can't stand behind thier work anymore!

When steering problems started occuring on my Chevy cobalt I took it to the dealership and the said the could not find anything wrong with the steering. They said they could go ahead and start replacing stuff on the car but that it would be expensive. I am on a limited income and cannot afford any major repairs.

I have a 2006 chevy cobalt ss supercharged. I was in love with this car untill the power steering went out. Power steering is a must in these cars and because of the failure with this steering column I wrecked my car into a ditch hitting a street sign one late night on my way home from work causing terrible damage to the body.

This has been a reoccuring problem and my car is only at 67000, of course it started malfinctioning 2000 miles after the warranty expired. Driving along suddenly the T/C light, the security light, and the power steering all come on and my car starts bucking badly and I cant steer. i have already paid 400 dollars to get the transmission module replaced and this is not the problem! How many people are going to have to crash and die before this is fixed??

I own a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. I have taken my car to the dealer with complaints about a clankink in the front end three separate times. The mechanics came up with no visible problems. This all was covered under warranty. After the warranty ran out at 32000 miles I just dealt with the noise which seemed to come and go. But now at 66000 miles I am haveing trouble parking backing up and staying in my lane all do to steering trouble. Oh and the clanking noise has gotten so bad sounds like the front end is falling off. This should not be at only 66000.

I have had the steering column replaced in my car by chevy's mechanics cause it was making a rattling noise in the steering area. Problem still exits and chevy don't want to fix it because of warrenty expiring. I'm upset because they should've done their job right in the first place.

Power steering keeps going out and the dealer and my warranty service agreement keep pointing the finger at everyone else so I have to shell out the cash for it to be fixed.

I'm a single mother and CANNOT afford $1,000+ dollars to fix this KNOWN issue. Something NEEDS to be done. I refuse to drive the ONLY vehicle I have because I am not going to put myself and child in danger. Once again something NEEDS to be done about this issue before someone gets hurt.
