First-time Home Buyer

2008 First-Time Home Buyers Keep Your Money!

Target:
2008 Frist-Time Home Buyers
Sponsored by:
For those of us who have bought houses for the first time before January 1, 2009 a tax credit was issued. This tax credit was 10% of the purchase price up to $7500. This credit is to be repaid over 15 years in increments of $500 a year starting in 2010.

On February 17, 2008 President Obama signed a stimulus package that will allow first-time home buyers to receive a tax credit. The tax credit will be 10% of the purchase price of the home, purchased after January 1, 2009, up to $8000. This money does not have to be repaid.

I believe those people who bought houses, in a time of great trouble for the USA, should be rewarded for their trust in the market before the new stimulus bill was passed. I believe those first-time home buyers who purchased their home between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 should be allowed to keep the tax rebate that has been or will be issued in their 2008 taxes.

I purchased a home in October of 2008. I claimed the $7,500 tax credit. Had I known that 2 months and 2 days later, if I closed on the home, I would have been able to get $500 more, and not have to repay, I would have jumped on it. I can only imagine how upset others are that purchased on December 31, 2008. Please add me to the list to retract the repayment!

I bought my home in July, 2008 and am a lower income first time homebuyer. If I knew that there was a credit in 2009 that would not have to be repaid - I would have waited until 2009 to buy my first home. I would like to petition that the 2008 First Time Credit would not be repaid.

i closed on my home dec 14,2008. i received the $7,500 tax credit. is there anyway to petition the irs or amend my 2008 taxes so i don’t have to pay it back?I could have waited until after the first of the year if i knew i didnt have to pay the credit back.i don”t think it is fair i get my kids into a home and out of an over priced apartment before x-max and thats why i have to pay the irs back.should have to count against someone.it should be retroactive i think.

I think it is ridiculous that I would have to pay the $7500 back and someone who bought their house two months after me gets more money and doesn't have to pay it back. It's twisted and something needs to be done!

Me and my girlfriend got a home she got the $7,500 and I the $8,000 FREE. Its not fair because she planning to buy a house since she was 18 yrs old and I just decided a year ago to purchase a home. Its NOT fair!

Im a 24 year old and I alredy own a hone, and I work hard for it as everyone else. I didnt by a house for the house credit I been always plan to buy a home since I was 18. We should a be treated equal and get the money free as well.

We should all get the deal

I also bought my house in late 2008 and would have held out until 2009 had I known the tax credit was going to change. The $7500 credit received in 2008 needs to be amended to be a true "credit" and not an interest free loan. In addition, the $500 difference of the $8000 credit for 2009 should be reimbursed to us as well.

If I would have known that I could save $8000 I would have waited. I'm a struggling teacher, could have used a tax break.

We should not have to pay this back buying a home in this economy is hard enough.

I really hope the people who got the 7500 will not have to pay it back. While I went into the deal knowing I would pay it back, it will eat up most of my tax rebate which is normally around 600 a year. That is money I put into the economy each year by taking a mini vacation.

I closed on my first home on 12/7/09. It is unfair that I was subjected to income and payback standards so close to those provisions no longer applicable.

As always, those of us who acted responsibly in their home purchase get the shaft. Repeal the $7500 interest free loans!

I purchased my home on 09/26/08 a couple of months shy of the new "free" tax credit and also feel that we should be offered the same incentives as those who purchased in 2009. I feel that this is only fair due to the fact that the economy and mortgage crisis didn't begin in 2009, it was going on way before then even when I purchased my home. The right thing should be done here and we should not have to repay the credit when EVERYONE who received both of the different credits faced the same economic conditions and mortgage crisis.

Purchased in late 2008. I strongly believe the 2009 tax credit provision should carryover to the previous 2008 provision. Write your Congressperson requesting this change!

I agree with the people by putting that date stamp for the tax credit is unfair. I was also like to state that the tax credit is even more unfair that you are not allowed to buy your first home from your close relative, but you can buy it from a step-relative. This is BS!!!!!!

It is not fair that if I bought my house six months before 2009 I have to pay back 7,500 tax credit. If I had known I would have waited another six months to get 8,000 that I did not have to pay back since I had waited forty five years before I could afford my first home in the first place.

I believe that it is unfair that the people who received the 2008 rebate have to repay the total amount.

I'm a single female and could barely afford my house and I've worked super hard. I appreciate the interest free loan of $7500 but when I purchased my home the economy went down and I missed out on my first choice when I was in escrow because the loans/lenders got so strict and changed! I lost that house and found another after saving as much as I could cutting back even on my daily meals!!! Now lenders are finally helping new home buyers and on top of that they get the $8000 without repaying it!?! Completely unfair!!

My wife and I were 35 DAYS from having $8,000 free and clear. Our realtor misrepresented the nature of this "tax credit" and we feel completely shafted by having to repay.

I just don't think it is fair that if I bought a house 1 year later I wouldn't have to pay back the tax credit. As a first time home buyer I am just settling into my finances and not having to pay back the money would be extremely beneficial for me and my family.

Please match the the 2008 stimulus package for first time home buyers with the package offered for the 2009 first time home buyers. Be Fair!!!!!!

Those people who bought houses in a time of great trouble, should be rewarded for their trust in the market before the new stimulus bill was passed. First-time home buyers who purchased their home between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 should be allowed to keep the tax rebate that has been issued in their 2008 taxes.

Being a full time college student working two part time jobs it is still difficult to scrape by. This tax credit helps me immensely, however repaying it is the issue. If i would have waited 3 monthes from november to february i woul have received five hundred more dollars without the payback stipulation.

The home I bought had to be redone inside and out. I am singel, and I am ADHD, with learning disabilities. The money is greatly apprechated but if I had only known . I bought on november 21 . It would be such a help to me because I always seam to be struggling. I love my new home and the money I receved went to improve the home. Thank you people of the united states of america. You are the goverment and you worked hard to make it possable that the men and women we elected also look to help us as well as the world . Bonnie Ratliff
