In the recent December 2009 'Callings' published for and by Genesys Hospital / Ascension Health Care Industry , CEO Mark Taylor declares a New Mission statement:

“as a Ministry of Jesus” Genesys Hospital in essence achieves church-like status in print.


This letter is a Call to All other existing Churches/congregations to give direction , guidance , and truthful meaning to this great undertaking. When Jesus Christ shared time in his ministry with the Apostles , were they co-workers or just expendable employees?

In past Radiology management directed meetings we were Invited to Awareness , Spirituality , and encouraged to see where God is in all of this? I'm sure some people are Wondering how this works.


President Betsy Aderholdt in the INK issue November 12th 2008 states: “I'm very thankful and proud to be part of such a compassionate organization that's committed to doing its best to make sure our poor and vulnerable are cared for.” (...yet in the Industrial strength business background of Ascension , Genesys is creating poor and vulnerable employees.)


In the very astute book 'Mistakes were Made (but not by me)” why we justify foolish beliefs , Bad decisions , and Hurtful Acts by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson self justification, dissonance , and blind spots are discussed. One interesting aspect is that: “...pain felt is always more intense than pain inflicted...” Which is what Genesys / Ascension systematically does to its employees. I really don't believe that Jesus Christ included this in his repertoire but inclusive of God and the Universe he was driven by LoveY and not by organizational monetary incentives. ( ...maybe he was just a bad manager in that sense and would have had to be let go.)


Instead of a Genesy's Mission Story could this really be interpreted as Our Mission Spin? I don't mean to be cynical but maybe this is just marketing of Christ because it sounds good.

But anyway , in the January 28th 2009 'Callings', Mark Taylor has stated a Priority of creating relationships with organized Labor to foster organizational excellence , ~ *this implies fair, in good Faith , optimal employee considerations*. ( However , the billboard off the expressway exit at Genesys remains and states history of facts otherwise:

“Labor Relations Board charges Genesys with Destroying working lives of Good Union Employees.


As a measure of checks and balance to unwieldy power and corporate dominance, with their intention of creating an “Employer's Paradise on Earth” , your valued response , positive input , and suggestions toward viable solutions is very welcome and appreciated. I'm sure Mark and Betsy want to hear from anyone and everyone , after all it is part of their ministry in practice. Hell , I work at what I do , why not them?

                          ( Towards “Universal Vision” in Practice)


Genesys Hospital / Ascension , Grand Blanc , Michigan publishes and distributes 'Callings'.

The patient care model is called “Visionscape”. ( However , the words “Valued Employee” are never mentioned. ) This model could be broadened to encompass a viable “Vision” toward HealthCare workers through out Ascension , making long term foresighted “Security” a primary goal as well.

In this America of fearful , despondent , trepidations Ascension Health can boldly enact a Special “Dual Purpose”, and Healing alleviation to aspects of daily endeavor. Going beyond Fiscal policy and monetary bottom lines will Create New Potentials of Holism benefiting every person involved regardless of position. Health aspects within the hospital environment will balance and harmonize.

This would be good “Visionscape” 3D enhancement...INNOVATION.


Some concerns and cautions within Ascension or any other large Organization bring to mind “God in the Office” by Lake Lambert III ~USA Today ~ Monday , February 8th , 2010 ~ “...Spirituality in the workplace may become a means to manipulate or control workers ...Spirituality can be an abusive tool to keep employees in line and discourage dissent. More important, Spirituality cannot maintain its own dignity and autonomy if it is subordinated to the Economic Laws of Supply and Demand.”


A BUSINESS needs to stay in the black but how much black?(...or “loaves and fishes”... )

How do we avert increasing consolidated Authoritarian control ( *either knowingly or unknowingly used*) that is mentioned by Barry C. Lynn in 'Cornered'?


To do this there has to be Flexibility to the $$bottom line$$ of always making more and looking for more ways to take it. Compassion and Care has to be considered to those affected , for true long range social Human benefit. Creative responses allow Healthy differences that allow Humane growth in a “Corporate Entity”.

( We can still have responsive, responsible Individuals and freedoms with latitude.)

Even God didn't try to make everyone the same, Obviously! What Fun would that be?


Dr. Patricia Gabow CEO/ Denver Health emphasizes Five Rights in Kaiser Health News. “Five Rights--the right physical environment , built for quality and safety to support employees , patients and families , the right person in the right job , the right communication processes , and the right rewards.”


Ascension Health implementing Right rewards to take care of HealthCare employees , combined ongoing security with peace of mind , enhanced economic freedom... would be a “Valued Goal” going hand in hand with Great patient care. Truly a tangible Blessing for sure!...just like this paper and print.
