WOULD YOU PREFER A 4 DAY 10 HOUR WORK WEEK? This website is dedicated to promoting public awareness of the benefits of the 4 DAY 10 HOUR work week. In a world that increasingly faces geopolitical and economical problems due to fuel and energy shortages and the rising costs associated with them, the time to implement the four day work week has finally arrived. If the average worker's commute is limited to four days instead of five the "green" advantages resulting from such conservation globally are obvious, not to mention the individual benefits of a consistent three day weekend to the human soul. The cultural shift to a 4 DAY 10 HOUR work week would benefit not only the 140 million commuters in the United States but the rest of the industrialized world at large. This website will provide more information in the future on how you can help and how together we the people can make this dream a reality. For now simply sign this petition and we'll continue working towards our goal of 10 million signatures.......stay tuned.....

It's simple, easy and I'm already there anyway...why not save on the gas...no one else is proposing anything that is really going to help the general population with our rising costs.

i have worked 4-10's as well as a normal 5-8 work week. my quality of life improved significantly on the 4-10 schedule. in our office, the choice was flexible. those who had child care issues were able to work 5 days if that was necessary. employees could specify a preference for either monday or friday off which ensured full coverage of office hours. sick time was calculated based on an 8 hours so a day's absence from work counted as 10 hours used. once administration accepted that this was a benefit necessary to offset lower pay than the private sector, the mechanics of the change to 4-10's was handled smoothly. our employer reduced turnover and found more people willing to become employees even though an easier job without the 4-10 schedule was available for the same rate of pay. employees felt appreciated and worked harder to keep the new schedule. morning "start-up" and lunch downtime used a smaller percentage of available work hours.
the biggest obstacle to the 4-10 schedule is the thinking of managers and executives. yet these days, flexible thinking toward more flexible work hours produces benefits way beyond those that were considered even 10 years ago. indeed, refusal to evaluate implementing a 4-10 work week should be viewed as fiscal and environmental irresponsibility.

i love the 4-10 work week, i am an airline employee and we have been doing it for decades. most airlines are on it, i guess they saw the benefit. when i was based in denver i had an 80 mile round trip commute, i figure that is a little over 2 gallons of gas a day in my honda civic, there is really no way to bus out there during my work ours so driving was the only option i figure i saved about 110 gallons a year or so just from the 1 extra day. plus i dont have to take a day off for dentist, DMV, doctor, bank....etc. so i dont really have to worry about taking days off all the time. my job is less stressful cause i get 3 days of recooperation from work. i recomend everyone goes to the schedule. the effect on US fuel consumption alone would be incredible. plus it frees up all those people who would be at work on say tuesday to possibly spend some of their extra gas money somewhere. maybe we could all start enjoying our lives a little more with an extra day off, instead of living at work and trying to cram everything into a short little 2 day weekend. if we are gonna continue to be a country that works 5-7 hours a week more than the rest of the world, at least we could try and get one extra day out of the deal.

My organization was allowed to go on a four day work schedule for 2 months and then it was taken away because management got irritated at not having everyone available everyday -- although it improved employee morale by leaps and bounds while it lasted and I have heard of some who are seeking employment elsewhere so they can secure a four day work week.
