$4.8 billion cut to the California state's public schools

Target:
U.S. House of Representatives, California State Assembly, California State Senate and US Senate
Sponsored by:
Governor Schwarzenegger proposed a suspension of the minimum school funding guarantee, Prop 98. That funding currently constitutes more than 70 percent of total K-12 funding in the state.

Such suspension equals a $4.8 billion cut to the California state's public schools.

Quality education is the most valuable asset for present and future generations. Achieving it requires a strong commitment from everyone, including governments, teachers, parents, community and students themselves.

Prop 98 is a good thing for schools because it makes sure we have increases in funding.  I am in support of keeping Prop 98.

Schools are too valuable! Education is too valuable for the future of the state and the country.

The children of California are our future workforce and leaders. They deserve a world class education and we have an obligation to provide it for them.

If our children are supposed to be our future, taking away their funding will create a world that will be simply uninhabitable as it will be run by ignorance.

Education should be a right given to U.S. Citizens, not a privilege. At the rate that we are going, it seems that getting a "good" education depends on which side of the tracks you live. Please stop the cycle and give our children the much needed right to education.

Investing in our children is a requirement that we are already failing, particularly the school system in Los Angeles.

We are ranked 48 out of the 50 states. Isn't that low enough?

Why don't we all stop playing Lotto? Stop the people running it from getting fat while our schools still suffer. Wasn't the Lotto to help the schools?!?!?!

The state needs to manage and cut areas where the real waste occurs. Stop taking funds away from our children! We need a diverse educational environment to meet the needs of all children. Larger class sizes, less programs and very limited class offerings are not going to help our children meet the goals expected of them! Overcrowded classrooms and overtired teachers are not the answer. Search through this massive bureaucracy and find the real waste but give our children a chance to explore diverse learning opportunities and develop a love for learning!

The education of our state's children should be one of our top priorities. If we provide high quality education to all of the state's children, we will begin to reduce state expenditures in many other areas. It is short-sighted and irresponsible to do anything else.

As an urban educator, your proposed effect my students more drastically than other students. You growth of a country, or state, can't no achieved by keeping the downtrodden down. How can we ever expect our children to have a half a chance at success.

As a California teacher working in a high-need school with little financial support, I am appalled by the proposal to cut education funding. These children are our future leaders and work force. We owe them a decent education so they can pursue their own dreams and become contributing citizens in our communities. Shame on you Governor Schwarzenegger. You need to look to make budget cuts somewhere else, don't take it out on the children that will create our future.

Why is school funding less important, proportionately, during budget distress? Schools should retain proportionate weight as specified in Prop 98. I understand budget cuts, and I understand that schools will suffer from that, but I don't agree with hitting the schools harder than is specified by prop 98. in my opinion, schools are already underfunded.
