Appeal Superintendent Distasio's Decision To Eliminate All Bus Stops For Magnet and Technical School

The children in the towns of Plymouth and Terryville Connecticut deserve to receive the best possible education that they can! The Superintendent of Education in Plymouth Connecticut, Dr. Anthony Distasio's decision to eliminate the 49 bus stops for Maloney Magnet School, 35 bus stops for Rotella Magnet School, 39 bus stops for Oliver Wolcott Technical School, 20 bus stops for Wamogo, and 43 bus stops Waterbury Arts Magnet School and instead have one central bus pick up and drop of area on either end of Plymouth. Parents of children that attend these schools that are handicapped, do not have a drivers license, have no car, have an older sibling or elderly grandparent place their child/children on and then take them off the bus in the afternoon, do not work between the hours of 9 and 2, etc. are being forced to withdraw their children from the schools that they attend and place them in a school in either Plymouth or Terryville for the school year 2012/2013 due to lack of transportation to and from the designated drop of and pick up spot. The superintendents response to this was that the district is not obligated to address parents or guardians accommodations! The level of education along with both the cultural and economic diversity that is offered to our children at these magnet schools is essential to their educational development and success in the future and help to build an excellent foundation for them to base the rest of their lives on! Our children's right to attend these schools is being taken away from them! Let's all stand together to protect our children's rights to the best possible education that they can receive!
