its painful reading about this poor dog being treated like this it makes me so angry ive just had to make the decision to have my male staffie put to sleep due to an illness and miss him loads but hes had a good life ,but we have two bitches one of which is similar looking to bruce and it pains me to think of somebody taking her away and treating her like this as she is one of the most cuddly dogs that just loves to love

Stop trying to make pits extinct. Don't all are bad dogs. "punish the deed, Not the Breed"!!! If one of your family members killed a person, Should you put on death row? Zeus is my baby. They wanted us to surrender him the dog warden, but we refuse it. Now we have fines & rules to go by for a kind & loving dog. Ignorance runs deep in some people that make up these laws. Spend a week with me & you'll notice he is a loving & wonderful dog that has brought so much joy into our lives.

I cannot imagine the torment this family must be going through. To have your family pet, who is also a friend and so much a huge part of your family torn away from you so cruelly is unbelievable. I just don't understand all this hatred toward a certain breed/type of dog. I have a mixed breed, Luna, who looks very much like she is part "pit bull type dog" whether Staffy or Am. Pit Bull, no one knows. I do know that she is a sweet dog who only does harm to stuffed toys. This poor dog has a similar face and body shape to my Luna. I hope Bruce can be reunited with his family. This is an outrageous act of animal cruelty.

I work as a Lecturer in Animal Management and as an Animal Behaviourist. I am the proud owner of 4 dogs one of which is a Bull Breed. In over 20 years of working with and training Dogs I have never had a problem with this type/breed dog. Usually it is the irresponsible owners who have given these dogs a bad reputation. For the record as a trainer and behaviourist I have dealt with aggression issues for over 20 years. The breeds which give me most concern are small terriers and border collies, who tend to be in the wrong environments and with owners who do not understand their needs, so the dogs frustration is released in acts of aggression. Again its not the dogs its the owners. Also a blanket knee jerk reaction to so called 'dangerous dogs' is not going to solve the situation. Personally I think those wishing to own a dog should be assessed and licenced. Those not suitable should be refused. Those accepted should have socialisation and training classes as part of their acceptance procedure for having dogs. I see too many dogs not given enough exercise, wrong diets, inappropriate environments (eg working dogs without a job). So to go on so but I am a dog fan, and can't imagine my life without them, but they all need discipline, exercise and TLC in the right way. Regards Susan

I can not believe that this is happening to this poor dog. He is much loved family Pet who has done no wrong. He can not help how he looks and he looks like lovely loving staffy to me. The fact that Bruce has obtained injuries while beig 'jailed' is bad enough but for the injuries to be allowed to get worse is totally unforgiveable. We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers and if that is the case this should not be happening. Please allow this dog to return home to the family that obviously love him so very much as he has been tortured more than enough. It's time legislation and policies were changed to protect animals from this kind of cruelty.

This story is really heartbreaking. I think its awful that the stereotypes about these kind of dogs exist, much less a dog being condemned for simple being born as that type of dog. I have had pit bulls before and know many people who will only own pit bulls because they are such friendly, obedient dogs I also know dogs that are known to be really gentle and non threatening that have bitten people or attacked other dogs/pets before so its especially sad that pits are singled out, especially ones like bruce, he sounds like the perfect dog. Hopefully this petition helps bring him home. Good luck!

I am a vet, and have been qualified for 14 years. I have seen animals suffering before, and will again. What makes me upset is that this suffering is so unnecessary for Bruce and his family, and is at the hands of the legal system. The Dangerous Dogs Act is an arse.

why should bruce not be allowed in a loving home....how is it even right to illegalise these pets....what should be done is that people who wish to own these breeds of dogs should inform their local council, that way the council and police will know where the dog(s) are and they can check up on the owners to ensure that they are being treated correctly....i dont see the people in charge doing much about murderers or rapists or paedophiles..if things were being done right, then these sort of people should be put on death row too...coz most of them offend again....i dont see where the difference really lies, other than people thinking an animals life is not worth something....

I really hope Bruce gets returned to his owners. I honestly don't understand why they took him when he done nothing wrong at all! There are more vicous dogs that need to be where he is, dogs that have actually attacked people. Any dog, no matter what breed can be the sweetest thing on the planet. Just coz of his breed? How stupid! Its like putting a coloured or someone from another country in prison or death row when they've done nothing wrong. Also if Bruse was such a 'bad' dog, even though he's done nothing wrong, why didn't they kill him sooner? Why keep him this long and keep him and his family suffering. Its sick! GIVE HIM BACK!!!

I feel so deeply for this dog and his owners. My husband and I are the proud parents of "Pepper" who is also a "pitt bull type dog", and Am. Staff. I am sure that Bruce is as docile as my little girl and that the torture he is enduring is cruel and unusual. He belongs in his home with his family who will love and care for him.

I think its a discrace that a dog who has done nothing wrong should be taken from a loving home on the bases that he may do something in the future bassed soally on his looks.
