Ban BSL

Ban BSL

Target:
Ohio Legislators
Sponsored by:

This page is in responce to the rampant spreading of Breed Specific Legislation. As concerned dog owners, we are uniting and combining our efforts, in hopes that those who are in a position to make a difference, do, and will realize that banning a specific breed of dog will not stop or solve the problem of "dangerous dogs" If its a "pit bull" today, then what breed tomorrow? It is our hope that legislatures will realize ALL dogs, of every breed, bite, yet the fault clearly lies with the owners, and not the dogs. Breed Specific legislation, or "BSL" as it is commonly called, has already been enacted in over thirty states nationwide. Germany, Canada, France, and England also enforce BSL. The "pit bull" a term, not a breed, we use loosely here is its #1 target. What happened to Americas beloved hero, the most popular and respected dog in America? Sergent Stubby was WWIs most outstanding "Canine Soldier" earning two medals. On 2/4/15 and 3/24/17, pit bulls graced the cover of Life Magazine. In 1929, Pete, was filmed as a regular in the comedy series the "Little Rascals" and "Our Gang". Helen Keller owned a Pit Bull, as did President Theodore Roosevelt, to name a few. With all things comes change, and so it is for the pitbull. After 100 years plus of respect and admiration, the highly regaurded view of the pit bull began to change. Following the foot steps of the doberman and rottweiler, the pit bull soon became a negative status symbol, and the headliner for every negative news story, regaurding dog attacks and/or maulings. The once untarnished image of the APBT became a thing of the past. Thus began the BSL battle. BSL labels all dogs as "dangerous" whether there is any truth to that or not. It generalizes. It fails to consider individual temperaments. It categorizes all dogs of that specific breedto only be one way=DANGEROUS. The pitbull which has often been misidentified and compared with 25 other breeds is in the forefront of the BSL battle. Every decade has had its dangerous breed. It is therfore apparent BSL is not the solution, as "dangerous dogs" continue to plague humans. Breed specific legislationis unfair! It discriminates! It unfairly punishes respondsible owners. By enacting it, it allows well bahaved dogs to receive the same fate as those that act incorrectly. How in any way is that fair? There are several cities, nationwide that have realized that BSL is not the answer, and have enforced their existing laws, a solution that continues to work. Incorrectly placing blame on the dogs will ensure the continuation of "dangerous dogs". We hope you realize this. However, holding each irresponsible owner accountable, for the dangerous actions of their dogs is a fair, unbiased decision. As concerned dog owners, we hope world wide legislators will realize this solution and discontinue implementing and enacting BSL. If BSL wins, we ALL loose.

How many loving pet have to die before the government understands that BSL is cruel and against our right to own the dog of our choice.

I am a proud owner of a 5 and a half year old male pit bull and also have 6 children ages 3 to 16. We have NEVER had an issue in anyway with Clyde, he is amazing with our children, very friendly with strangers and other dogs and it's because he was raised in a loving home where he was cared for and respected. If you really want to do something for certain breeds, crack down on delinquent owners and animal abusers. These breeds with bad reputations are simply a product of their environment.

It never ceases to amaze me how ignorance always seems to rule over logic! How is banning these dogs going to help solve your problem? It's only going to force the irresponsible owners to seek out other breeds to fight and make aggressive. Our pets are not your problem, irresponsibility is! It's about time you stop, congradulate those RESPONSIBLE pet owners by showing your support and allow them to keep the family pets they so desperately love and ream the IRRESPONSIBLE pet owners who are abusing, neglecting, fighting, starving, etc...their pets. Enforce an annual mandatory pet registration where owners must show proof of vaccinations and rabies shots at annual intervals along with proof from the veterinarian who adimistered these vaccinations that the pets are infact well-behaved/mannered, not abused, neglected, etc... Come on people! Human beings are the most lethal, destructive, terrorizing threat to this planet, we're the ones who constantly destroy what we do not understand or wish to understand...take a stand for a change and prove you are not part of the sheep! Support us RESPONSIBLE pet owners and ban the IRRESPONSIBLE pet owners with heafty fines, removal of their animals (ALL OF THEM), jail time, community service, etc...

Breed Specific Legislation targets and harms good dogs, and responsible owners, it does not affect the population of irresponsible , underground , bad owners, who dog fight , who dont maintain their pets properly and who are using dogs for other ill begotten gains. Dogs under these laws are being ripped from the hands of the responsible owners and familys that own and take care of them properly. How do you explain to a young child that because of a narrow minded law, their beloved pet is going to be taken away , and euthanized , or their pet will be forced to live wearing a muzzle , having to be registered , and unable to enjoy being a dog anymore? You cant. Familys are being punished for choosing to own a breed of dog that unfortunately many people use to a bad end. Please try to pass harsher laws regarding the treatment of dogs, making harsher punishments for the bad owners and for people who are cruel and who fight their dogs. Make it harder for the criminals to have these dogs, not good loving owners.

I myself own three pitbulls. They have been the greatest dogs. The best companions. I also have a cat and kids. The dogs neither bother the cat nor my kids. I was a 2 year old and had 54 stitches inside and out on my face from a German Sheppard. It wasn't the dogs fault, it was the owner's for teaching the dog to be aggressive. Each of my dogs think that people are put there just to pet and love them. Each of the three are spoiled and loved and love back with more devotion than anything.

I have been around many breeds of dog's from very small to the largest. I am against BSL it is discrimation of the breeds. There are many people who have put a lot of work into their dog's to make them good, respectable loving animals. Being a responsible educated owner is the key to raising a good dog. I personally put a lot of work into my dog's. Dog's are not born bad it is how they are raised and trained.

I have many large dogs in the past and never once have I owned a dog that by any means would be considered viscious or mean. I have had a rottweiller, bull mastiff, and a pit bull none of which would harm a fly if unprovoked.

My son was attacked by a dog when he was 3 years old. he was left scarred and terrified of dogs. For weeks afterwards we would visit some friends who owned a Staffordshire bull terrier who was the calmest and most gentle dog I have ever known. He resocialised my son curing his fear so that he is now happy and content around dogs. I have never known a pet staffy who was not also similarly calm and gentle. (Just like human beings) nutters can occur in any 'breed', the most agressive and erratic dog I've ever known was an American springer spaniel, from a reputable breeder and raised in a loving family. BUT as a general rule it is training &/or abuse/neglect that make an agressive dog, NOT breed. BSL should be a Joke, since it is appalling to believe that anyone, even a politician, could take it seriously as a solution to anything!

RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP IS THE KEY TO SUCCESSFULLY STOPPING TRAGEDIES FROM DOGS. WE HAVE A BAD PEOPLE PROBLEM, NOT A BAD DOG PROBLEM. WE IN EVERY COMMUNITY ARE SMARTER THAN A BAND AID APPROACH TO SOLVING THESE PROBLEMS. SOMEONE OF SIGNIFIGANCE NEEDS TO MAKE A STAND.

I don't believe in banning any dog breed. However, I do believe that not all people should be allowed to own sertain kinds of dogs. Some people train them to become agressive, and these people are part of the reason why pitbulls, rothweilers and dobermen, have been given a bad rap. These dogs are not agressive or dangerous by nature and can be as loving and loyal pets, as any other dog..

BSL should be banned! It can lead to the banning of all dogbreeds.

Proud owner of two UCK registered APBT. Neither has ever shown aggression towards humans or other dogs alike. On the other hand when i take my dogs for walks, unrestrained dogs that are owned by bad owners come out into the street and want to start trouble. When that happens my dogs just ignore the inappropriate behavior and continue with their walk. punish the deed, not the breed.

IGNORANCE - that is the foundation of BSL. Pitt Bulls are loving, wonderful companions. Legislators with too much time on their hands - maybe they should use that time to do a little research? Or be licked to death by a sweet pitt bull puppy? Ugh - disgusting. I will fall out if Houston considers this nonsense. Just disgusting. Genocide? Um no.

I have a Pit Bull, and she is the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever known. I can’t understand why anyone thinks BSL is necessary. It’s absolutely ridiculous! I hope one day people will accept Pit Bulls for the beautiful animal they truly are and stop discriminating against them. Anyone who has a Pit Bull knows they aren’t the monstrous creatures the media portrays them to be.

People don't really understand how wonderful pitbulls are, the people that want to ban them, hasn't never even own one. Now I don't even see how that could even hold up in life. Everthing that is on earth is here for a reason, god created all that is upon earth. It is not the dogs fault, when is the world going to stop settling with blaming the wrong person. The reason why I say person, is because the olny thing that dogs has different from humans is those that have dogs and dont treat them like a human. They have feeling just as well as we do; they will also put their life in danger for us. There is alot of things that I could say, but I hope that this will change minds all over the world. There is a god which made everything, but us as humans he gave us a choice to do as we please. But the choices that we make are not what he want, how would we as humans feel if god gave up on us and banned us from earth, which is what those out there are trying to do to these gentle loving people. There are other ways to stop pitbulls attacks, start with the people that got these dog and treat them so bad until they turn to violence. So as a pitbull lover think about us that treat our pits as our kids and not a animal. Would you want somebody taking your kids from you? That is what you are doing to us that love our dogs to death.

You know, everywhere you look in society we have experts in this, experts in that, etc.....Can someone please tell me where the hell they came up with these damn "experts" that claim the Pitbull is a naturally vicious dog towards humans and other animals alike????? It's bogus nonsense that needs to be addressed. I would trust a Pitbull around my child as long as I live. Together we must stop BSL. It's time to show America that a Pitbull can also be known as a fun loving family dog.
