This petition is created to gather interest and support to petition the ATO national organization the opportunity to start discussing a re-colonization of the Old Dominion chapter, Zeta Tau, that we are so proud of.
We the undersigned, are interested in bringing back the proud Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity to Old Dominion University (Zeta Tau).  For many years the Zeta Tau chapter brotherhood has remained a close group and has yearned for a re-colonization of the chapter at Old Dominion.

The University is undergoing a very strong growth period, capturing the attention of perspective students as well as alumni and would be a great time to re-colonize.  Over the recent years several other fraternities have re-colonized and experienced significant growth and popularity within the school and local communities.

We look forward to the opportunity to share Alpha Tau Omega with future Old Dominion students, alumni, family and friends.

We thank you for your time and would appreciate your sincere consideration to begin discussions on how to bring ATO back to ODU.

Love and Respect!

I've been fortunate enough to remain in contact with many alumni over the years and I consider myself blessed for having them in my life. I know of no other venue that has produced so many men that live there lives with such high levels of character and success. The amazing thing is that we all come from different parts of the country, have different interests, and different upbringings. Many brothers are currently serving our country in the Armed Forces, others have become doctors or serve in law enforcement, many more are successful business owners or leaders in there respective fields and communities. In fact, the only commonality I can attribute the overall group culture to, is that we all come from the Zeta Tau chapter of ATO. To not allow future young men the opportunity to experience the Zeta Tau culture and learn the lessons of success and leadership, that only come from being surrounded by like minded people, is a disservice to the community. I implore you to consider the re-instatement of the Zeta Tau chapter and I pledge my time to help in any way I can. Furthermore, the heartfelt messages below are a great example of the type of people that the Zeta Tau chapter has produced over the years. The tragic events that lead to the dissolution of the chapter will never be forgotten, nor should it be. We lost a friend, and it is up to each of us to reflect on and deal with the loss over time. It has now been many years and I feel that it’s the right time, and of the utmost importance to allow the return of the chapter at ODU. Allowing us the opportunity to impart our knowledge and values on the next generation, through this fraternity, is the best way I can think of to honor the memory of our friends.

Being part of the Zeta Tau chapter meant incredibly more than just being a member of THE fraternity. Zeta Tau filled the gaps that O.D.U. did not. While O.D.U. focused on traditional academics, Zeta Tau instilled life learning concepts with an emphasis on leadership, loyalty, and success. Despite my short time at ODU, I still remain in contact with several of my brothers, particularly from my pledge class, and am thrilled about the possibility of re-colonizing Zeta Tau at O.D.U. Doing so would allow prospective studens to immerse themselves into the same rich experiences we have all been fortunate enough to have taken part of. L&R, Jason J. Webber jjwebber@munciepolice.org

Ditto to everything said before. Bringing back the chapter would be supported and taken very seriously by local and distant alumni. From pledging 18 years ago to maintaining numerous current contacts with brothers throughout the country this experience has been a life long commitment and will continue to be long into the future that is why it is too valuable to let go any longer for future members. From leadership to service to genuine bonding this chapter has a rich history well beyond the "social" aspect. That is why it would thrive and set an example if brought back.

There is a large alumni support in the local area, and I think it would be an asset to bring back ATO to ODU. This ferternity help a lot of its members become successfull in life after college. It was very unfortunite that the chapter was lost. I think bring back ATO would do a lot for the university and the community.

I don't know what I can really add on top of the many heart felt statements below. Becoming an ATO was an awesome experience and one that has had a lasting impact on my life. I can only hope that future students at Old Dominion will have the opportunity to benefit from the principles of the founding fathers of the fraternity as well.

We are TAUS! In the Fall 07' semester at Old Dominion University I met some of the strongest hearted and most character rich guys that I have ever met. We entered college with virtually no idea of what may lie ahead, and I believe that ATO gave us a structured road to follow. Many of the people that were involved in the Zeta Tau Chapter still keep in contact today, and will continue to do so in the future. Being a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity made me realize that there are no points for second best. Most of the brothers that I talk to about where they currently are, or what they currently do, attribute most of their success to what ATO helped to instill in their lives in college. To rebuild the Zeta Tau Chapter at Old Dominion University would take a great deal of work from a very strong alumni, and I feel we are up to the challenge. L&R John Buyalos

ATO was so much more to me than a Fraternity. I have built a network of friends and business contacts that has been the cornerstone of my career to date. It has given me the ability to develop resources that I would have never been able to tap into.

I arrived at Old Dominion University as an only child and left with more brothers, of which I now consider family, than I could have ever imagined. There are many attributes that make a man successful in life but none as important as leadership, pride, and respect. These values were instilled in me from the beginning and will remain with me for the rest of my life. With such a large and extremely successful alumni support network in the area I urge that National seriously consider reinstating the Zeta Tau Chapter at Old Dominion University. You have my support and unwavering loyalty. L&R Stephane Rosse

the Old Dominion Zeta Tau chapter of ATO, is something in my life I care deeply about. Many influences and accomplishments in my life happened because I am a part of this family. My accomplishments at work started from being a member of this prestigous group of men. Through difficult times in my life, such as loosing a parent, my brothers helped me get get through this difficult time. I have life long members that I consider family that are from this membership. ATO is and will be a huge positive influence to the ODU campus. We always participated in helping the community with efforts, such as Habitat for Humanity and other charitable organizations. It would be a real positive to let ATO- Zeta Tau back at ODU.

The ATO Zeta Tau alumni live in the shadows of a tragic event that occurred 7 years ago that deeply touched the lives of the brotherhood forever and will never be forgotten. With a university that is growing exponentially and the Zeta Tau alumni stronger than ever the time is right to reinstate the Zeta Tau chapter at ODU. The future focus will be on educating new members on the personal and social responsibilities needed in preparation for life outside the walls of the university. The Zeta Tau alumni are committed to providing ATO with this leadership and financial support required to ensure the future success of the Zeta Tau chapter. I respectfully request that you honor Terri Sterling by bringing back the chapter and allowing the alumni to make the Zeta Tau chapter the model of tomorrows Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. This chapter at ODU was one of the strongest chapters in the country at one point. If you would allow it to come back, all of us know 100% it would flourish and become what it was years ago, and help define future generations with what being an ATO is all about - brotherhood and lifelong friendships.

Being an ATO at Old Dominion opened the doors to many experiences that I am very grateful for and benefitted from. The bonds and friendships that I developed will always be cherished and I will never forget the memories that my brothers and I made. ATO teaches you teamwork, leadership, and respect. It would be great if this opportunity was once again available for others.

The Zeta Tau Chapter at Old Dominion University was far more than a fraternity or social network. Having come from a very close family, the chapter gave me that same sense of family and home despite being an incoming freshman at an urban university. Like a family, they were there not only when things were good, but when I stumbled in life and became overwhelmed. I never had brothers as a child, but when I needed them most, I found I had an entre fraternity of brothers who provided me with support and encouragement. I have since attained my bachelor’s degree and am an employed professional in the engineering field. Many of those same brothers who were there for me then are a part of my life to this day. The circumstances under which the Zeta Tau Chapter lost its charter were tragic and rocked all of us to the core. Those were our brothers, and that loss affects us all still. However, despite that tragedy, we have maintained our brotherhood and connection. Being members of Alpha Tau Omega, being brothers, has held us together since then. Through our brotherhood, we have shared experiences and navigated the many roads of life. If the Zeta Tau Chapter is allowed to return to Old Dominion’s Campus, that same bond and brotherhood can be passed on to a younger generation who will benefit from it’s strength and character.

Some of my best memories of college came from my ATO Chapter from ODU. I still continue to stay in touch with my brothers, local and abroad. To have this type of bond is very special and priceless. Being a Tau instills values of leadership and respect. To think of not giving this opportunity to future Taus is a disservice. There would be nothing better to have our local Chapter back with the induction of the Football program starting in the Fall of 2009.

Being an ATO instills values such as leadership, respect and camraderie. We have such a strong backbone in the Norfolk area, and given the opportunity, we could influence the future of our nation with our strong values. Bring the Zeta Tau chapter back to ODU!

My involvement in the Zeta Tau chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity brought me immeasurable experiences and irreplacable friendships. I can confidently say that I would not have achieved all that I have with out first sharing this brotherhood with such a fine group of men!

Being a TAU made you part of something special. It helped us reach Ultimate momements, created breakthroughs that defined our careers and filled our lives with a lasting significance. It is time to allow other students at ODU to experience this unbreakable bond.

Being a brother of the Zeta Tau chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity offered me opportunities to grow as a person in ways that would not have been afforded to me otherwise. The re-colonization of our chapter will allow us to pass along these opportunities to a new generation of brothers, and to grow with the University and do even bigger and better things.
