Domestic Partnership rights Equal by law to marriage rights

Target:
U.S. voter-age citizens
Sponsored by:
After 3 states instituted support for same-sex marriages, States across the country (Florida, California, Arizona, Montana) have propositions to ban same-sex marriages. The bans will continue. Instead of breaking through the religious right, go around. Pass laws transferring all the rights bestowed on married people to couples in domestic partnerships, making the two categories equal.

Everyone should be allowed to marry who they choose, serve what gods they will, and live a life that is authentic to their beliefs. This is The USA we are supposed to have equal rights! But still our rights are unequal...we only have them if they fit with what some specific group says is right and proper.....where is the equality? Love is love no matter the gender sequence!!!!

To all you born again Christians: Remember this: God doesn't make mistakes! . . . and He made Gays and Lesbians just like He made you! So, who are you to judge us? God didn't give you that right. Only He has the right to judge us . . . and He will, individualy. If you were the good Christians you proclaim to be, you could back off and let God take care of things.

Living in the United States of America is supposed to guarranty us ALL equal rights! That's what we stand for! That's what we're all about! That's what we proclaim to the rest of the world! Is it true? . . . or are we just liers? What does YOUR America stand for?

Why not have equal rights? Who is it going to hurt? What will it really change?

As it is the 'straight' community has destroyed the sanctimony that is marriage. Almost half of every marriage ends in divorce. So what is the difference if homosexual couples marry too. It's not like they can going to destroy something that is already in ruins.

I just feel that we shouldn't have to continue to go to a notary public office everytime we switch jobs to prove that we have a lasting relationship. My employer reconizes my relationship but my country can't? That doesn't seem fair isn't it a human rights issue not a religion issue? Besides that their is supposed to be a separation between church and state does that not count for the goverment? It doesnt even have 2 be legally called a marriage it is a human right to love whom you choose to love. I just want my wife (as I will continue to call her regardless), to recieve the same health care and benefits that I do and to fulfill my dying wishes just as any other heterosexual couple would want is that so hard 2 ask? Were we not all created equal or is it you that created us as people to decide how to judge us?

A domestic partner would be no different then a heterosexual couple. Why should the inheritance change? Even if it did the government can't decide who to make your beneficiary on your life insurance.... We should all be equally able to recieve the same benefits as any heterosexual married couple.

I am not gay or lesbian. I am married and have 2 children and a grandchild. I have lesbian friends and we don't feel any different about them than we do our "straight" friends. Their blood is red and they feel too. They are people and so what if their choices are not the same as everyone else This is the U.S.A. Freedom of choice.

I believe domestic partners should have the same rights as married people do. People just need to leave them alone. Why are people so concerned about it anyhow?

I really don't care what it's called as long as we get the same legal rights as married couples!

I am a lesbian woman. I honestly know that 2 people who love each other should never be told that you can't wed. This is the biggest Discrimination I've seen in I don't know how long. Little by little all of our american rights are being taken away. Domestic partners should have the same rights as everyone else does who's married. We're no different except what we do behind closed doors. The love is there. If people don't like it, well last I knew, were also american and DON'T take anymore rights from us.LET US WED AS OTHER PEOPLE DO WHO LOVE EACH OTHER!!!!!!

WHY IS IT THAT A MAN AND WOMAN CAN LIVE TOGETHER, OFTEN UNHAPPILY AND WITH NO RESPECT, BUT TWO SAME-SEX PEOPLE WHO GENIUNELY LOVE EACH OTHER CANNOT REAP THE SAME BENEFITS? WE HAVE TO END THIS CHARADE, NOW! GRACE MATSON

THAT SHOULD BE UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL COUPLE, WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT EACH OTHER AS BENEFICIARIES.

Dear Elected Representatives of The People, If a fundamental part of our country's government is separation of church and state, what is the reason for banning same sex marriage? Even as a "nation under God", each of us individually must be accountable for our own actions, personally, on a one on one basis, before God. If your reasons for denying us the right to marry are based solely on your religious beliefs, i challenge you to look it up. Not by reading the work of another, but by doing an exegesis yourself. By getting out your concordance and looking at the original text. You will find that none of the contemporary words from those time periods for gay, lesbian or homosexual are used. I am sure you are aware that words can easily be twisted or crafted to mean or prove most anything. We must look at the Scriptures, as much as anything else, with awareness. If we do not know who wrote it; for what purpose and with what intent, what the situation was and who it was written to, how can we expect to apply it effectively to our lives today. Consider the time, the culture and even the language of the text. The difficulty of a camel passing through "the eye of a needle" makes more sense when you understand the idiom and the reference to the narrow arched gates of the city. The camels had to be unburdened before passing through and then reloaded on the other side. Words are fickle, even when we speak the same language. I know as I try to choose the best words to express my thoughts, no matter how careful I am you may interpret them differently. You will look at them from your own perspective, with your own awareness and sensibilities. After looking at the facts, seeing what is and isn't in the original text, and praying it through, if you are still not able to legalize gay marriage, I'll try to understand. But then, please, make domestic partnership rights equal to those of marriage. Marriage is not a heterosexual right, it is a human right. As such, We, The People, are asking you to uphold our rights and consider us human. In all sincerity and with much hope, Loy

Yes! RE: the comment made by Kathey Holland, of California (signature #13) "Domestic partner laws should include pensions, inheritance, hospital visits, social security etc. to exactly match marriage "partnerships."" They should also include insurance, for both the spouse and/or children.

I am the partner of the petitioner below. It is a shame that we are descriminated against. We deserve the same rights as hetrosexual couples. Please help this cause and allow us the peace of mind that other couples take for granted.

Same sex couples need right to we are human. My partner and I have been together 12 years. We have an 11 month old and a 15 year old. I want to know if anything happens to either of us our children will remain with the other. Rather than be up routed from the only family they know and believe in.

We should be allowed the same rights as married couples.

Dear Lawmakers, Please overturn the ban on same-sex marriages in CA and AZ. Lets show the world that the US is open-minded.

Yes they should have the same rights as man and woman partnerships.

Give equal rights to every person. Marriages could remain church ceremonies and domestic partners would be the legal contract that all people would sign.

Domestic partner laws should include pensions, inheritance, hospital visits, social security etc. to exactly match marriage "partnerships." This way, everyone will be happy, churches will be satisfied, and people can be protected in their partnerships. Let's be fair here in America. NO MORE DISCRIMINATION!!!
