Help Save ECSU Cheer's Coach & 2011 Season!

As some of you may know, the ECSU cheerleading program has been faced with countless losses and challenges this past year.  We have lost members on several different occasions for many different reasons, and had to start from scratch often.  Despite these obstacles we have grown infinitely stronger as a team and family. The trouble we have encountered has only succeeded in making us more invested in the continued success of this program.

Unfortunately, there are people outside of our program that do not share our dedication to the team and to each other.  These people have written letters to the school and outside cheerleading organizations complaining about the competency and training style of our coach, Renee McGeary; stating that they believe our lives are endangered in her hands.  This serious accusation was accompanied by links to videos from our last competition and stunts attempted during practice.  I would like to mention now that within these videos, no safety violations were present and our team, as well as Renee, handled all new skills appropriately and as safely as possible.  As with any sport, perfection is only achieved through practice.

With many years of coaching experience at multiple levels, personal experience, and an extensive array of accreditations and certifications, Renee McGeary demonstrates the knowledge, training, and capability necessary to run the Competitive Cheerleading club sport here at Eastern. Renee herself is a credentialed AACCA coach (the organization that was contacted with complaints). She constantly strives to help us better our skills on an individual and team level.

Although no serious injuries have been inflicted upon the members of this team and there is no proof to back up the statements found within these anonymous emails, the school has still made the decision to suspend the cheerleading program until further notice and request multiple meetings with Renee in regards to these complaints.

The purpose of this petition is to show the Athletics Board that Renee McGeary and the Eastern Cheerleaders have the full support and confidence of family members and others in our community.  Our ultimate goal is the immediate reinstatement of the competitive cheerleading program at Eastern and the continuation of Renee McGeary as our fully competent, capably trained, and extremely motivational head coach.

If you are in agreement that these allegations should be dismissed as defamation and persecution of an extremely hard working woman and team, then the ECSU cheerleaders would appreciate your signature and support in this issue!

Thank you for your time,
