Sponsored by:

A permit was granted by the Department of Minerals and Energy in South Africa to Maranda Mining Company (Pty) Ltd to start open cast mining in a protected wildlife sanctuary.

We the undersigned herewith request that you immediately suspend and cancel permit number 63/2006 (Reference number LP30/5/1/3/2/78MP) issued to Maranda Mining Pty Ltd.

We have been informed that due process was not followed to obtain this permit to do open cast mining in the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary that is home to many endangered species of fauna and flora.

We know that a public consultation process was not followed and that Maranda Mining did not consult with the legal occupier of the land.

The information contained in their EMP is misleading and factually incorrect.  We therefore urge you to immediately cancel the permit and to follow the due process should Maranda Mining choose to reapply for a mining permit.

We are of the opinion that should you have been presented with the true facts, you would not have issued a permit to mine in a protected wildlife reserve that is home to endangered, orphaned, rescued, traumatised and misplaced wild animals.

We cannot disturb these wonderful creatures. They too have a right to roam the Earth undisturbed. Please find another way to do the mineral work.

Tourism to view the animals and sactuary will bring in money. The minerals can be left in place and saved for the future. Perhaps a new method of mining will be developed which is not destructive.

PLEASE, PLEASE save the rescued wild South African Animals. SanWild is a wonderful resource in that country. The miners have been cutting locks and doing what they want to do anyway WITHOUT the benefit of proper permission.

To continue protection of animals and many endangered plants in a Wildlife Sanctuary, stop open cast mining by Maranda Mining Company (Pty) Ltd. It would defy any logic not to do so. Please reconsider.

When is it going to stop? How many must suffer for the sake of greed? Unfortunately animals cant speak for themselves - if they could what do you think they would say? Please stop destroying our beautiful country for the sake of lining your pockets.

The Sanwild Wildlife Park needs to have a safe and hazerdus free enviroment to try and save the animals. Their habitat is already comprimised. Can we not share the earth and have a sanctuary for other living creatures? This mining must stop. There are other areas to mine!

Please halt all mining related activities in or near SanWild sanctuary. This area is a renowned and valuable refuge and a precious resource to the wildlife within its protected borders as well as concerned people the world over. Allowing the sanctity of this refuge to be violated is an act that cannot be tolerated. Please correct this violation immediately.

Wildlife locations are so limited as it is yet we continue to invade them. Lets change our attitude from an inhumane society with little regard for life to a compassionate and more caring one

My God, must greed and avarice ALWAYS take precedence over the care of those less powerful, less able to stand up to companies with dollar signs in their eyes. These animals have finally found a place of safety, of care and love and protection. Are they not entitled to have met their basic needs for life and security? Must mankind always put wealth in front of welfare? SanWild is, at last, a sanctuary for those wonderful animals who have already been hurt by mankind. Please let them continue to find peace and safety where people love and care about them and stop the greed. Truly, enough is enough.

Every vacation of mine is spent in Africa enjoying your wonderful people and wildlife. Please protect areas dedicated to the preservation of wildlife such as SanWild Wildife Trust and continue to encourage ecotourism and alternate avenues of income for the people of Africa.

It is a tragedy what we are doing to the balance of nature. That very balance is so necessary to our own survival. Please do not allow any mining in our protected wildernesses. We have so little that we have put aside to try to preserve our world and our own quality of life.

LIFE is more important than the extra money a man can make. Human LIFE, Animal LIFE, Plant LIFE. If we do not respect our WILDLIFE, how can we truly respect ourselves? We have destroyed this beautiful world enough. It's time to rebuild. Don't let this happen. Please.

I care deeply about the welfare of wildlife and am disheartened by their diminishing numbers. Please I urge you to protect this small herd of elephants. Already they've been traumatized by the move. Blasting would only lead to their destruction. If we don't take measures to save what little wildlife remains then they will be gone forever in the very close future.

Profits MUST NOT dictate whether or not nature and animals survive. Please help protect the elephants!
