Save the HVP Vaccine Program

Target:
HSE, Ireland
Sponsored by:

The Minister for Health Mary Harney has announced that due to current economic constraints, the rollout of the HPV vaccination programme will not go ahead.

The vaccine is given to young girls to help fight cervical cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society said it is very disappointed with the Health Minister's decision.

81 women died from cervical cancer in Ireland in 2007.

We should not accept this and demand that the program be restored.

I'm 24, I'm French and I'm living in Ireland. I had been contaminate 1 year ago by the HPV virus. I can watch on forums that this virus is more and more present in France, so the goverment had decide to vaccine young girl, for me it's essential for public care because die from cervical Cancer is unacceptable in 2009.

Dear Minister, Your advisors should have informed you of the large and growing body of research evidence that causally links HPV -of the type the vaccine prevents - with most major cancers. Search PubMed for yourself under HPV and cancer. A revolution in cancer prevention is unfolding.

Your government colleagues care more for the criminals of the world than the vulnerable. Why not consider reducing/removing the luxuries you give to the John Giligans of the world. Imagine how quick €10 million would appear if you stopped spoiling the prisoners in mountjoy and portlaoise.

dear ms harney it is a disgrace as the minisher for health and a woman that you have decided to not to vaccinate against cervical cancer.for such a long time research has been done to cure cancer and its a disgrace that we are not utilising this chance to save lives. What an awful day it is when one realises their minister for health does not have the health of women in ireland in her plan.this decision will have a detrimental affect on so many.

I myself have suffered from pre cancerious cells at neck of my womb & was attending hospital for 10 yrs for different tests & lazer treatment. I was 18 whan this started , i am now 30 & only got the all clear 2 yrs ago. So much tissus has been scraped & lazered from my cervix that if i was 2 fall pregnant i wil need a stitch in my cervix 2 carry a baby full term. There is nothing 2 stop these cells from coming back, so i call on you 2 reverse your decision so that the young woman of this country won't have 2 go thru what i did & so i don't have 2 go through it again.

Lack of forward planning costs us more money in the long-term and LIVES. Lost one friend already to cervical cancer at the age of 39. The government should put people first.

my cousin died from cervical cancer in 1999 at a very young age of 28 and left behind a little son and a devastated family who are still trying to come to terms.nobody should be dying from anything that we can prevent in this day and age no matter what the cost.what would you do mary if it was your daughter.

As someone who's just had treatment for abnormal cells I am very angry that the gorvernment have abandoned this vaccination programme. They has wasted millions of taxpayers money on management consultants and tribunals and I cannot believe they do not have 10million for this. Time for a change !

I was to receive this vaccine as i have previously had pre cancerous cells removed... She shouldn't be let made decisions on our health, she is hopeless and hasn't a clue.. Surely health should be a priority!!!!!!
