Hearing Aid Assistance Tax Credit Act PetitionYou most likely know someone who has a hearing loss. Whether it affects a relative, child, friend or co-worker, or even yourself, hearing loss is a prevalent and often neglected concern. Hearing loss affects over 30 million Americans or 1 in every 10 people; in fact, it's the second most common birth defect. Despite these staggering numbers and the fact that hearing aids could treat 95% of all hearing loss, Medicare and most insurance policies expressly exclude coverage, making treatment an expensive endeavor. The Hearing Aid Tax Credit is legislation drafted with these real concerns in mind. If enacted, it would provide a $500 tax credit per hearing aid available once every 5 years for dependents and for those aged 55 and older.
With an average cost of $1,800 including fitting and follow-up, hearing aid treatment can result in unexpectedly high costs for the average American. The tax credit would help millions of people seeking hearing aid treatment since $500 can make the difference when deciding whether you can afford treatment. The tax credit has wide bi-partisan support, is supported by nearly every hearing health organization and advocacy group, and addresses a real and too often ignored healthcare need. Your support is needed, however, to let your Senators and Representative know that the Hearing Aid Tax Credit would make a real difference in your life.
Please, sign this position to indicate your support of the Hearing Aid Assistance Tax Credit Act.

My daughter Chanelle is 7 years old.She was diagnosed with moderately-severe, bilateral, sensory-neural hearing loss at age 2. I was in total disbelief to find that no insurance companies will cover the cost of hearing aids in massachusetts, and that all of the state funded programs that help with the cost of the aids are only available to low income families which, like most, I do not qualify for. Insurace should at the very least cover hearing aids for children, as it is an absolute neccesity to their education and ultimately, to their abiity to be contributing members of society!

I have had hearing problems my entire life. Born deaf in my left ear and lost 50% of my hearing in my right due to a bad ear infection at the age of 3. I have worn a hearing aid since I was 6 and my parents have always had to pay cash because there is no insurance out there that covers these things! I now am on disability and get very little money as it is. I am currently in need of a new one and medicare does not cover them either. What makes me sick is that insurances pay for viagara " Wow" isn't that incredible! Why can't they also help the hard of hearing with their problems as well???

I feel that the deaf have been forgotten in our society. There are no insurance coverage for them not any assistance or tax credits for the hearing equipment or supplies. All other disabilities are covered

Ive been deaf since i was born. These hearing aids that i need cost 5100.00!

I have a service related hearing loss that I am just now able to afford hearing aids for. I have gone untreated for years due to the cost of hearing aids. At least getting a tax credit or relief for the costs would help so many that go untreated due to the high cost.
WHY doesent big gov. require insurance companies to cover part of this cost??? I can get full coverage for a hangnail, but nothing for my hearing????

My husband is only 54 years old but nearly deaf from years of working around noisy equipment without ear protection. His employer acknowleges this, but won't pay for hearing aids, which cost over $5,000 for the kind and extend of loss he has. We have good insurance, but will only pay for $400 per pair. This is riduculous! How do people pay for these things? This is absolutely necessary for our quality of life.

Dear Sirs,
I am a hearing aid user, aged 87, and cannot imagine how limited my life would be without my hearing aids. They were expensive, and thanks to my husband's retirement, I was able to afford them. However, I know that many people in New Mexico who need them will not be able to afford them without help, such as this important tax credit.

My one hering aid does make my life better. This unit did cost me $1550 back in January 2007. It was a mid range Phonak Brand unit.
I like to see a $1500 to $2000 tax credit once every five years. I am retired on a fixed income.
Thanks You
Richard Janiak

Please consider the tax credit. Hearing impacts all aspects of life and this tax credit would enable more people to purchase the devices neccessary for them to communicate with their loved ones and to function better in society.

no one understands what happens to life when you cannot hear what the person sitting next to you is saying. Worse, you become vul nerable to everything dangerous: Car horns, ambulance sirens, safety in general. Without hearing aids Medicare and supplemental insurance risk paying out many more dollars for doctor and hospital bills than hearing aids if only preventitive practices were in place to begin with. WHY IS PREVENTITIVE MEDICINE ON THE BACK BURNER???? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!! hearing and vision are gifts to be taken very, very seriously.

Hearing loss is experienced by virtually 100% of the elder population. Since hearing aids are so costly, a tax credit would make their purchase more affordable.

With the present economic conditions, this bill would help many, many people in obtaining first-time hearing aids and replacements. My three sons have the same rare genetic condition as I, and they need hearing aids. One of them cannot afford to buy them. This bill might ease the impact of the high cost of the aids.
