"At a time when renewable energy is all the rage, one of the windiest states in the nation seems unlikely to spur new projects because of a tight budget with little wiggle room.
State senators introduced measures Tuesday to provide tax credits, teachers, a task force and other ways to promote alternative energy such as wind power, solar power and natural gas.
Gov. Dave Heineman has told lawmakers that state government must tighten its belt as the stock market plummets and tax revenue falls."

According to the American Wind Energy Association, Nebraska is ranked sixth in the nation with the greatest energy potential from wind power. In 2007, more than 200 million kilowatthours were generated by wind energy in Nebraska.
We need renewable energy to be a priority!! It will help bring clean and renewable energy into a state that has the ability to create it!
Help this become a priority by sending a letter to Nebraska State Governor Dave Heineman and by signing this petition.

Dear Governor Dave Heineman,
I am writing to express my concern about not making renewable energy production a priority. Specifically, I would like your support for legislation that would push for an alternative energy such as wind power.
While I realize these are uncertain economic times, it is nonetheless sound and prudent management to begin today to reduce the severity of the problem -- rather than defer action and leave a much bigger and more expensive problem for our children. Furthermore, developing clean energy can create new economic opportunities and jobs for this state.
Governor, please protect our ecological heritage. I look forward to hearing your plans to creating renewable energy production strategies for this state, and I hope you will support the State Government who wish to make this a priority.
We signed the "Wind Power faces tough battle in Nebraska" petition!

In each township in Nebraska there are two sections of land that the state ownes for schools if the state would use this land and put wind turbines on them, then there would be no demand for school property taxes. In my county there are 60 school sections, 38,000 acres to put wind turbines

Respected Sir/Madam, we all need to understand that the researches which are going on the wind power and energy are having full potential to draw attention from our next generations as they will be dwelling on the natural resources more than we do. So, supporting such important issues may have better results than expected-these are best ones to be given place in the curriculum, educational experimentation as the practical so that it goes along with the solar cells, hydraulic power and other forms, as these are correlated with one another, one missing may damage the interest in other. We have to keep this creative intelligence and thought alive so that we may survive. Thanks!

The need for alternative energy is an issue that crosses state lines. And yours is hardly the only state with budget problems. This is an issue that we should be getting federal help on as part of economic stimulus.

Although I appreciate the need to tighten spending, I believe investment in the future must continue. With ongoing improvement in the technology, and the abundance of sun and wind in Nebraska, perhaps this could be a replacement for lost industrial jobs.

While I no longer live in Nebraska, I grew up there, and my family still lives there. I am taking the time to write, however, because I feel that alternative/renewable energy sources will help our whole country. Nebraska is an ideal place to use wind generators, and even though money is tight, investing in a renewable energy source would not only help the state, but would set a good example for others to follow.
I urge you to make wind power a priority for the state, and help turn our country's dependence on fossil fuel power into a more self sustaining source of energy, not only for our country, but for the planet.
Sincerely,
Pippi Konstanski

Our state averages 15 knots of wind speed daily. Its a shameful waste to not tap such a great natural resource.

It's time to release the past and move forward. Cost should NOT be an issue when it comes to taking better care of the planet which feeds and houses each and every one of us. We ALL need clean air, clean water, clean land, and clean food to thrive at our greatest potential. For the sake of our children, and descendants to come, let's take action and CHOOSE CLEAN POWER!!!
Sincerely,
Melissa Plueger

I can understand the need for financial restraint - especially during these uncertain times. However, our new president has made it clear that he intends to support and provide federal funds for alternative energy projects.
With an "Energy economy" coming up on the horizon Nebraska needs to be on the forefront to stay competitive and provide jobs for our workers who are getting laid off at an alarming rate - we cannot have government digging in it's heels now: it's time to get projects "shovel ready", not to table them.
