Stop Clear-Cutting & Aerial Spraying Washington

STOP CORPORATE CLEAR-CUTTING AND AERIAL SPRAYING IN BEAUTIFUL NE WASHINGTON STATE, USA!

We are alarmed at the current forest practices being used by Timber Investment Corp., Forest Capital Partners, and Others.

Clear-cutting is currently legal on private land, but while private rights are important, they can not be at the expense of the majority of the people's needs, quality of life, environment, health and welfare. We need to change our rules and regulations and their use.

Unsustainable clear-cutting mobilizes debris and pollutants that not only find their way into the streams and rivers but also to the marine environment. In watersheds where forests are degraded or destroyed, minimum flows decrease during the dry season, leading to drought, while peak floods and soil erosion increase during the wet season. Studies show that the plantations that replace diverse forests are extremely fire-prone.

The aesthetic value of the landscape, outdoor recreation, environmental safety, water and air quality, run off and soil erosion, destruction of ecosystems, quality of life, destruction of wildlife from habitat loss, endangering of future logging industry and the local economy, and the market value of properties in our region are all negatively affected as well.

These objectionable practices include aerial spraying of herbicides, clear cutting, and mono-crop replanting, all in the name of corporate profits.

See Map: http://www.logsmarter.com/map.htm  This map of Stevens County in Northeast Washington State, USA, shows Forest Capital forest land holdings purchased from Boise Cascade. These areas are being ravaged by logging practices that are not sustainable and are potentially devastating to the environment and the area's economy.
The cumulative effects of these practices are devastating and not suited to our Dry Land Forests.  The economic, recreational, environmental and cultural benefits of a forested landscape are being threatened.
