Help the Economy: Demand Congressional Action on our Debt NOW

The time to act is now.The choice is clear.  Congress must place the USA on a fiscally responsible path NOW to ensure the economic recovery and job creation continue.  It is too risky to wait. If we wait until 2013 and beyond, the weakening world economy (European recession , Chinese slow down, etc.) may drag our economy back down before Congress acts. We will miss the chance at a self-sustaining recovery.  Failure to act is not an option.  The American people deserve better from our elected officials.

We are asking Congressional Leaders to bring the Simpson-Bowles "The Moment of Truth: Report of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform" plan to the floor for a vote.  This plan changes the trend of debt as a percent of GDP from an ever increasing one based on current policy to one that starts decreasing in 2015.

To complete the plan the members of the committee had to put their country first, respect ideas and values from both sides of the aisle, and compromise.  We are asking that every member of Congress be given the chance to support those same values, ensure the economic recovery continues and jobs are created.

The time is right economically to boost the recovery over the hump to start a durable multi-year economic expansion. The economy is approaching escape velocity where the recovery becomes self-sustaining. We must make that happen. We must make the hard decisions to put the US on a fiscally sound path to ensure we get there.

Demand Congress bring The Simpson-Bowles plan to the floor for a vote immediately.

We the undersigned are urging Congress to place the USA on a fiscally responsible path NOW to ensure the economic recovery and job creation continue.

It is too risky to wait. If we wait until 2013 and beyond, the weakening global economy  (European recession, Chinese slow-down, etc.) may drag our economy back down before Congress acts. We will miss the chance at a self-sustaining recovery. Please don't let that happen.

Right now businesses have record levels of cash on their balance sheets to invest. So far they have been hesitant to do so. This is in part due to a lack of confidence in the ability of our political system to move the country forward. This is understandable after the S&P downgrade of the US due to congressional inaction, the failure of the super-committee and the attitude that all US long term fiscal decisions will have to wait until after the 2012 elections. Now is the time to change that perception. Now is the time to give businesses confidence that the USA is a great place to invest and to create a sense of urgency to expand and create jobs.

The risks are too high to wait longer. Please act NOW to make this recovery self-sustaining. 2013 is too late.
Please bring the Simpson-Bowles “The Moment of Truth: Report of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibiity and Reform” plan to the floors of congress for a vote within the next 2-3 months to ensure the economy reaches escape velocity and stays there.

If there are any areas of disagreement when preparing the legislative language vow to split the difference down the middle. Do not allow a disagreement to cause inaction and risk our economic recovery.

The members of the committee were successful because they put our country first, respected ideas and values from both sides of the aisle, and then compromised.  We are asking you to do the same.

And, we are asking that every member of Congress be given the chance to support those same values and vote for fiscal responsibility to ensure the economic recovery and job creation continue.

Please act now before it is too late. 2013 is too late. We may be back in recession by then.

Thank you, in advance, for acting now to help our country.
