Gender Identity Discrimination

This petition is to show our support in adding Gender Identity as a protected sect of students and faculty on campus as The University of Kansas.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read through this, we appreciate your time.

We are asking for Gender Identity to be added to the non discrimination bill for The University of Kansas. Already we're protected from discrimination based on gender but that only applies when we identify with the same gender we're born with - which isn't always the case. This would show our support for the trans gendered students and faculty at KU and give them firm ground to stand on if they're discriminated against for such reasons - giving them a course of action to have the situation remedied. While KU is a very progressive campus there is always room for change and we believe this is another step in the correct direction to protect the rights of all of the students and staff at KU so we can all feel our rights or protected during our college career.

People should not be descriminated against because of their sexual orientation, political or religious views. If one was to discount a person because of something so trivial, then chances are, they would miss out on a lot of amazing individuals.

Douglas Co. is the most liberal in Kansas. If we're still tolerating discrimination here, our state is in trouble.

I am transgendered. This is so important. All avenues of increasing public education and awarness change the imagery. Thanks so much for your efforts. Stephanie Mott. Director of Outreach Services. Metropolitan Community Church of Topeka.

I thank you for adding gender identity, and sexual orientation to your policy so that hate crimes against those that identify or who are perceived to be gay or transgender have protection. Thank you for identifying this problem and adding it your policies.

As human beings we all deserve to be treated fairly and to be able to live without fear of persecution. I would think that a college campus would want to have an environment that is conducive to learning, not just academics, but also in broadening an individuals social and world views.

All human beings should absolutely be legally protected from any sort of discrimination or hate! The government certainly doesn't discriminate when it comes to collecting taxes or enforcing the law; therefore, because we all are held to equal expectations, we should be granted equal rights. Can we really discriminate when we are ALL different?

It's time for KU to join Arizona State, the University of California system, Stanford, Yale, the University of Illinois system, Iowa State, University of Iowa, the University of Maine system, Harvard, MIT, Michigan State, University of Michigan, Princeton, University of New Mexico, the CUNY system, Columbia, Cornell, NYU, Duke, and dozens of other schools in adopting a nondiscrimintation policy that includes transgender people and others who perform their gender in ways incongruent with their biological sex.

Acceptance is not the equivalent of approval. Approval involves a personal judgment of good/bad, right/wrong which, to Christians, is best left to those not living in glass houses. Acceptance= it is what it is. These individuals, foremost, are human beings and are fellow Americans. A university is a place of learning. In order for learning and growth a human needs foremost a sense of safety. If a university accepts a person's money an agreement is made to afford that human being safety on their premises. It's that simple.

I think there is even more of a danger towards hate crimes against trans gendered people. Even in the gay community there is little understanding of what it means to be transgenderd and there is a lot of animosity towards this group of individuals.
