M.E.R.F. this TURF

Congratulations to Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, for being appointed as CEO of Green For All, (http://www.greenforall.org/?gfa_splash=1)  you will lead us to ask for GREEN jobs, to be created in our neighborhoods. Unfortunately at (http://www.stimuluswatch.org/) we can see that very few of the jobs are actually GREEN; and even fewer employ more than 100 ppeople (http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/home.aspx).

We haven't given up.

We're asking you to sponsor this campaign and bring it to the GOVERNORS of the U.S.

We want you to encourage them to build a M.E.R.F. at every landfill.  A M.R.F. is a Materials Recovery Facility which sorts trash with from a single stream. We've added the "E" for electronics which cause extreme harm to our environment and developing countries to whom we send our trash.

  We've learned that in San Jose, CA. (http://www.sjrecycles.org/residents/mrf.asp) that a M.R.F. can employ over 400 people. The ESD (Environmental Services Department) is one of the City's largest and most visible departments. Among its major initiatives are to provide:

• Healthy streams, rivers, marshlands and Bay waters;
• Reliable water, garbage, and recycling services;
• Clean and green air, land and energy policy development; and
• Community education aimed at environmental sustainability

The undersigned on this petition are in agreement that we need to aim for ZERO waste. And that cleaning up our trash will provide ongoing employment. Therefore, we're calling on you, Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins to present these ideas to the President, but more efficiently to our Governors!!
