NFL Referee accountability!

Target:
NFL and NFL fans
Sponsored by:
Due to Ed Hochuli blowing calls and using his questionable judgement to decide a game (San Diego VS. Denver 09-14-08) we the FANS  (who also happen to support the NFL with our hard earned $) of the NFL petition that he be suspended and disciplined for poor job performance just as any other professional would for poor performance.
We as fans of the NFL need to stand up against poor performance by referees who have unlimited power to affect the game we love. We need to let the NFL know that we will not stand by and let the NFL become the NBA part two. We will not allow our sports integrity to be destroyed because of the lack of repercussions for these unquestioned gods of the gridiron.

Stand up and let your voice be heard. There is power in numbers and we will show the NFL that numbers we have!

The refs need to be held accountable for their calls. Calling 13 penalties for 115 yards on the Steelers vs 2 penalties for 5 yards on the Chargers is obviously unbalanced. The Steelers are not a sloppy team, but a flag was thrown almost every other play. How about calling the game the same way for both teams? Many of those penalties against Pittsburgh were on big plays. And to top it all off, the refs mistakenly cancel Polamalu's last second touchdown, then admit their mistake a minute later when it still could have been rectified. The scene of events was very fishy--an investigation should be in order.

Unbelievable!! I can't quite understand what the referees were talking about yesterday during the Steelers/Chargers game. First, a blown pass interference call which gave the Chargers their only touchdown and then the reversal of a clear touchdown by Troy at the very end of the game. Apparently, the ref's got a call from their bookies to reverse the call so they wouldn't beat the 4.5 point spread! Then I heard this morning on the radio that the ref's had said after the game that it should have been a touchdown and it was yet ANOTHER BLOWN CALL! ! How about if the NFL starts fining the referees for bad calls?

After watching the steelers / san diego game I now know for a fact that the officials DO NOT CARE about making the right call. I have never seen a game called so lopsided. How as fans can we keep accepting the BULLSHIT CALLS by the officials. The league NEEDS TO STEP TO THE PLATE AND FIRE,YES FIRE all of the "SO CALLED" officials in that game. We don't want to hear "I'm sorry", or " it was a "judgement call". THAT'S BULLSHIT, and a piss poor excuse for FCKING UP. The NFL NEEDS to address this.If players can be fined for their play, so should the officials. Let's FIRE ALL of them and start with new ones, and hold them accountable for their actions.

It seems that the referee's and their huge ego's that they have....are mad at the steelers for making comments earlier in the year against them....so therefore they make up calls against the steelers because they have no accountablity. The want to show the steelers that they are the boss and how dare anyone challenge them. The pittsburgh/san diego refs are lucky i didnt see them at the pittsburgh airport after the game!!!!!! They are SOOOO incompetent!! How can one team be penalized 13 times and another team only once.....give me a break....and the referee even admitted to misinterpreting the last play!!!! I dotn gamble so the score doesnt matter to me....but to take away a touchdown to a player who worked so hard to get it is unacceptable. I dont know how the NFL continues to condone this behavier by these idiots. We the consumers of the NFL need to continue to pressure the NFL on accountability.

steelers vs san diego, wow could the refs BE MORE F'ING OBVIOUS THE FIX WAS IN. How does the NFL continue to let refs get away with this garbage. Chris Collinsworth just said it shoud have been a td on the halftime show of night game. This is bull the nfl should change the score to what it should be and Scott Green, the referee should be investigated and fired imediately.

Steelers v San Diego, 11/16/08 Palamalu scores on last play but it was overturned by some kind of illegal forward pass that no one in the world saw except for the #%^%$ ref who overturned the touchdown. The spread was 5. I don't think I need to tell which %^&*%# side of that I was on.

No matter how blatant the bad call you the NFL want us to believe that the game isn't fixed. Gimme a break you change the rules every year Call them different in the playoffs and the team who played better and deserved to win doesn't always. This is ruining the integrity of the game which was once a sport and not big business

NFL officials have to be held accountable not just graded. Officials took the ball out of the falcons hands on sunday after a missed called and and sealed thier fate. all a team can ask for is a chance to win the game at the end. the falcons were denied that chance by poor officiating. all they had to do was take a look and get the call right.

the officials are changing the out come of these games. and instant replay should be used to correct call such as the saints game on monday night but do not use the teck. to identify what caused the fumble, bla bla bla, or we just stupid if our internet worked liked this, you know what oi mmean , no lets just keep the officials makeing the decesions on who wins, is it fixed, big money and a man that what he says goes and let me tell you he knows the rules and can call em and minipulate the outcome. is it fixed, ha ha ha ha ha ha, yea baby it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that he is a biased ref especially when it comes to the green bay packers. I have seen more no calls, calls over nothing, and especially Farve stroking when he was there it makes me sick. He should be banned from all packer games and viking games since he obviously hates them with a passion and has handed the packers more undeserving victories than I can count! Ban him for the sake of unbiased refs' everywhere.

16 games in a season, 1 taken away because a ref blows a call dead before the play is actually finished playing out. Yes he should be held accountable. Players are held accountable any time they do something stupid. Chargers should be 1-1 not 0-2, really too bad that the Charger organization is getting a bad rap for whining about this, again, a win is a win and with only 16 games in the season, you got to get the W when you can. Shame on the league for not recognizing the effect of a blown call.

Although the equipment was not "working", why couldn't the people upstairs call down and tell the refs what was obviously clear on that play? And when a ref admits he made a mistake, why then, does the ruling have to stand? It was so obvious that was a fumble! The Chargers were ROBBED!!!

The NFL should make the Chargers and Denver replay the end of that Game at there next meeting....The NBA did it last year when the official scorer made a mistake and Fouled Shaq out early in a game between the Heat and Hawks. They just redid the end of that game before the scheduled game that day

I am a fan of the NFL of 30 years. I have owned season tickets for 22 years. I have purchased NFL ticket for the past 7 years, been to 3 super bowls and purchased numerous jerseys and memoriblila over the years and even pursuaded my company to write a grant to the NFL to help with the Saints and the Katrina situation. I know to the NFL, I'm just another "nobody" that you will no doubt replace with another fan but after yesterday, i can (as hard as it is) honestly say I'm done. I will not support an orginization that will not own up to its mistakes, and yesterday was a debacle. We are not talking about a fluke call or an undefinative replay, this was crytal clear. I seem to recall a Cleveland game a few years back where a game winning field goal was in question and they went AGAINST the rules to make the right call. There were a couple of other bad calls in the game and the mysterious "malfunction" of the replay equipment in the first quarter which reulted in a touchdown as well. This petition may never reach your office, Mr Commisioner, and like i said, im just another faceless fan, but I am no longer a fan of the NFL and will take my allegiance to another orginazation. Thanks for the memories!

disgusted that the NFL -lets a local individual have anything to do with the Denver-SD replay feed. Shocking that it wasn't working--have you ever heard of a back up for a business event? sickening that a ref can give acalled fumble back to the team that fumbled inside the 2 min. warning. The same NFL that shields the Patriots from the suspensions & discipline they really should be getting for fraudulently cheating outside of the strict league guidelines. Gaming the system is in --I take it for the NFL. so sad. I really don't have the same interest in the games --because their is so much doubt re: is it truly transparent & fair for EVERY team?

Last year the Chargers won the AFC West by 4 games over Denver. That's 25% of the season where there was no drama in the West Division. The NFL wants drama all the way till the final game of the last week of the season. No drama means fewer TV viewers which equals less advertising $. That one game pretty much guaranteed that the AFC West race will go well into Decemeber this year. Well done, NFL and Ed Hochuli. The last game of the season between denver and san diego promises to have more drama than last year's game. Are you happy now, Goodell? At some point, it has to become painfully obvious that this league has an agenda. That is to make sure the best "TV teams" get in the playoffs. Last year, the league wanted the Colts and the Patriots to be in the title game. It was obvious. The Chargers got hosed on several calls in the playoff game against the Colts. Fortunately, they were able to overcome the refs. This was just an even more blatant attempt to keep the drama in NFL until later in the season. Winning your division with 25% of the season still left to play is NOT what the NFL wants to see. So.... you get that sort of horrible officiating that hurts the fans, the players, the coaches and anyone with an ounce of fair play or sensibility. I will be turning in my season tickets next year. I won't spend any more money on NFL tickets or merchandise. If I want to see rigged athletic contests, I'll watch the WWF or the NBA.

Where's the proper application for instant replay. These mess-ups could cost the Chargers 10s of millions, not to mention the playoffs!
# 28:

The NFL should put into place a fairness test. When Ed blew the call, it should not have been allowed to overturn the real result. Cutler fumbled, San Diego recovered. The whistle had nothing to do with that result. Oh, it sure was ironic that the review equipment did not work earlier which would have overturned another bad call.

The NFL's review process is broken when the review process cannot overturn a whistle. A whistle preventing the right call from being made is ludicrous, as the review process is supposed to be in place to overturn the wrong call on the field. Not only was the call of incomplete pass wrong, but so was the whistle. Why couldn't they overturn the whistle and give the Chargers the ball on the 10. Ridiculous amateur system.

Whether or not these calls are deciding games, people should be held accountable for poor performances. A minor mistake here or there is forgivable, but huge debacles like we saw with a blatant bad call and faulty equipment only make the league seem incompenent. Hope this never happens to another team.

As a lifelong Bronco's fan, even I'm stunned by the officiating at yesterday's game. I'm hate to say it, but the Chargers were robbed. Especially by the equipment not working on the Champ Bailey turnover (really it wasn't) and the fumble by Cutler at the end. As much as I wanted the Bronco's to win, I'd rather they win by their playing, not by poor officiating. It's tough for a team (the Chargers) to play one game (against the Broncos), let alone 2 games (also against the Refs) at the same time. The Bailey turnover really set the tone for the rest of the game, and it's hard to come back from that. If the NFL Refs won't say it, I will...sorry Chargers and Charger fans. Would love to see you in the playoffs and I hope this doesn't jam you up.

Just wanted to say this is the worst game I have ever seen officiated in my whole life. These ref(s) need to be suspended and fined. Also what the heck is the replay truck is down. Does Denver maintain that? Maybe a fine to whoever is responsible for this situation. Why even have replay if the ref(s) are going to mess up the call and nothing can be done?

As an NFL fan, it is disheartening to see that a game cannot be called properly by well trained NFL officials. Twice during the Chargers Broncos game, the referres calls favored the broncos when it clearly should have been chargers ball.

To Whom it May Concern: Yestersdays game was great big blackeye for the NFL and a horable kick in the face to the San Diego Chargers. This notion that 1 offical has the power to dictate the outcome of a game is without question a major mistake by the NFL. That is why we have instant replay so things like this do not happen, the whistle should not be more powerful than instant replay if and when there is clear evidence of the play on tape. How is this possible, is there nobody that can see this? The world knows if was a fumble, game over Chargers win! This was a sad day in Football. Sincerely, Paul Rubio

Yes I am a Chargers fan, but the way that this game was officiated was very, very poorly done. First, your equipment is broken, so Ed Hochuli is unable to review an important reception. Second, through out the entire game, Denver Broncos players are chop blocking and holding with very few second glances or flags. Third, Ed Hochuli made a bad call in the fourth quarter. Jay Cutler fumbled, and it should have been Chargers ball for the win. I expect better officiating from the NFL. This is not basketball, or baseball where it's ok to lie, cheat, and gamble. This is the NFL. I would like to see some sort of compensation to the Chargers for these numerous mistakes, at least more than an "I'm sorry". Have Ed Hochuli go on the Jim Rome show to make his apology to the Chargers organization and fans. He can also apologize to Rome for getting all bent out shape about a joke Rome made about Ed Hochuli being tested for steroids. Thanks, if you even read this.

The NFL should be ashamed about the officating in the Chargers Bronco game today. Every team deserves a fair shake at an even playing field. The review system is designed so mistakes are fixed. Yet, the review machine was not working? Why was the game started without it working? How about a back up system? If a ref. makes a bad call his job is to correct it. Why was it not corrected when everyone watching saw the mistake? A lot of NFL fans demand that this gets taken care of immediatly We pay your salary's, do not forget it!

In all my years of watching the NFL and a season tix holder I have never seen such fixed officiating. There was two horrific calls that make me think that the NFL fixes games. I look back at last years Colts vs Chargers game and the call that brought back Cromarties int TD for a holding that was not there, but the so called fumble by Chambers and the clear fumble by CUTLER leave me to believe that these games are fixed and Ed.H need to oppoligize to the fans of the NFL and be suspended. I will boycot the watching of NFL games on TV until things get changed.

This play was an insult to fair officiating. WHen A fumble happens it can't stop the play....and even if it did, it can't return magically to the org. team. Total BS I think The Referees are taking bribes. There is no other reason to make us things that impact a game like that.

This is an absolute EMBARRASMENT to the NFL and its official. Ed Hochuli's officiating team officially decided a game today. In the first quarter only 2 minutes was allowed to fix apparently "broken" replay equipment and therefore the Chargers were not allowed to challenge a play which all who were watching the replays on television were able to clearly see the official ruled incorrectly ( a definite catch by Chris Chambers and then down by elbow contact) a fumble and turnover and handed the ball to the Bronoos deep in San Diego territory. That was a potential point swing of 7-14 points. Then at the very end of the game the Chargers clearly won the game 38-31 on a Jay Cutler fumble (even Jay admitted in the post game interview that it WAS a fumble) and quickly covered the ball and should have been given possession to run out the clock. But the inept Ed Hochuli inadvertently, or possibly due to bias, blew his whistle to stop the play,,,,,,all who were watching could easily see that Cutler fumbled the ball backwards prior to any motion to pass the ball forward. Ed Hochuli was out of position to make a definitive call and if that is the case he had no business blowing the play dead before it could be correctly officiated by either another official in adequate position, or the replay system. But he AGAIN negated any chance for impartial replay by blowing the play dead way prematurely and incompetently. PLEASE bring this crew to task, and overturn the outcome of the game......FINAL ACTUAL SCORE San Diego 38 Denver 24. The biased soore is Denver + Ed Hochuli 39 San Diego 38. All commentators and announcers were totally in agreement with this assessment, and it is in no way a biased account of what happened today. The NFL is being embarrased and its competence to fairly officiate its games is now clearly brought into the limelight for all to see. PLEASE CORRECT THIS TERRIBLE INJUSTICE. I AM OUTRAGED and so are those who want to see the NFL as a fairly officiated sport.
