New Yorkers for a Fair Income Tax

New Yorkers for a Fair Income Tax

Target:
Gov. Paterson and NYS Legislature

Currently, New York State has essentially a Flat Tax.  A single person earning $20,000 taxable income pays the same 6.8% rate as the person earning $2,000,000.  During the last several decades, the wealthiest among us have had their tax rate lowered by 50%.  The result has been increasing deficits and decreasing services.  Please help reverse this trend and get New York "back on track" by signing the petition below.

We, the undersigned, call upon the Governor and the Legislature of NY State to pass a fair tax on New Yorkers earning $250,000 or more a year.  To ask our wealthier fellow citizens to carry a little more of the burden, especially in these extremely tough economic times, would help to reduce the cuts to education, health care and other vital services so important to all New Yorkers.

I am in agreement with this proposal. Too much is sliding by which is allowing our nation to fail. We, as Americans, must work together to balance tax breaks accordingly. Success should not be based on cheating, or stealing, but based on giving back those opportunities for "We the People" to all walks of life. One example would be to allocate monies to help rebuild young parent's accountability to their children. We must demand that unwed females/males, who are raising children without an education themselves, finish their high school degree, along with parental workshops, while working, and receiving monetary government funds. This would be a great incentive towards achieving a better parental role model for their children. Children must have first teachings that include postive emotional, physical, and intellectual standards in place before they enter pre-k or kindergarten so they are ready to learn. We are failing our children right from birth which is resulting in our nation's low academic scores. As a educator myself, we invest in so many academic programs too late. Invest in parental programs early, in their children's lives, so they are ready to perform in the classroom with energy and a desire to learn. I

We Will All Distribute your idiotic to Big Media and Start Letting those “Useless Talking Heads on TV News” know what’s really worth reporting to the world… And they will Report it as we will also through our blogs.. … … I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted.

Many of my non-millionaire friends are in New York and God Help Them... Gov. Paterson and NYS Legislature is corrupt to the core and probably don't give a damn about what the people want... Your voices are all shut down with contempt...

Increasing the tax rate for wealthy residents of the state will not drive them out of the state. Putting the tax burden on the poorest income earners who need every cent they earn to live is not fair.

We the working poor are being killed here in NY between income taxes , sales tax and real estate taxes. How are we to survive here if it continues? I personally wanted to live my whole life here in western NY ( Buffalo area) but with us paying the highest gasoline prices in the 48 states and someof the highest taxes, my family will soon be forced to move elsewhere to live. Once we leave we won't be coming back. So if you politicians want to keep the population here give us some breaks. the first 20,000 a person makes should be tax FREE tax the rich as they are sucking the life out of the rest of us here in the state

It is time for all to pay their FAIR SHARE! A progressive tax is the fair way! Budget cuts to education and health care are a disgrace! Our youths of today are tomorrow's leaders. In the USA, shouldn't all have a fair chance at a great education?! And, why should we be be putting our citizens' lives at risk?!

It is time for those who never feel any pain to experience a little. Balancing the budget on the backs of the poor and retirees is unfair and ignorant.

In 1976, non-rich Americans accounted for 51% of our nations wealth, in 2005 - 27%. Why are we worried about the wealthy? They have the best accountants; don't worry, they will receive their tax break for the new car they bought last year. They will remain rich with the Fair Share Tax Reform, as was proven from 2003 - 2007.

The time will come when if an adjustment isn't made to the tax code, the rich will be taxed by the security companies working overtime to protect their wealth from the outraged.

I continue to be dumbfounded by the lack of sense of what the 'common good' means and our need to act on this principle. Let us turn this into a reality. Make decisions that help everyone somehow and not only a few.

What I'd REALLY like to see is a hatchet taken to the bloated and red-tape riddled levels of government in our state and save our money that way instead of raising taxes on anyone...but we know NY government is incapable of self-correction, so....

I'm retired and very worried about the financial crisis our states finds itself in. As most New Yorkers I can not afford higher taxes and the only possible solution has to be a progressive income tax so the rich pay their FAIR SHARE. They're reaped the benefits of having high paying careers that our great state provided and now it's pay back time. NYC has been a drain on the state for years and now it's the very wealthy, particularly in that part of the state, that can provide the only realistic solution we have!

Please feel free to share how cuts to education and healthcare have adversely affected your life.

A progressive tax based on income might be a nice substitution with the aim of cutting deficit spending plus cutting spending in government and outside government that reflects the needs of the people of NYS but not the needs of a select few in government and outside of government. It is causing my granddaughter to go into great debt to educate herself. She will be paying off this debt for a long, long time. Also, at 73, would like to consider retiring, but can't afford it because of having to carry health insurance. Can't we either get for affordable insurance or get medical prices to go down. Everything keeps going up & up.

By these cuts taking place in Albany, my property taxes have gone up. I'm a retired school teacher living on $31,000 a year.

Not only do we have to equalize the tax structure, but also the salary structures. I am a highly educated, highly trained professional divorced woman who has been forced to take low-paying jobs with no significant pension plan or health insurance while others with less education and training have made much more generous salaries. I would like to see the adjunct professor scam phased out--adjuncts have much in common with the migrant food workers, but they are not immigrants.

I am all for whatever cuts to the budget for education, healthcare, and social services may be necessary - just as soon as wealthy New Yorkers, who have benefitted from tax breaks over the years, and have thereby contributed to the states' deficit, share in the sacrifice and pay their fair share.

If we continue to allow education to be cut again and again, the dumbing down of this country will be the ultimate downfall of this country.
