INSURANCE BILL for AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS in NEVADA!

  • by: Kelly Upp

Nevada residents only please.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a brain disorder and medical condition that affects development. It can affect a person's ability to communicate, relate to others, and interact with his or her surroundings. Treatments for this disability are extremely expensive.

Nevada does not currently require private insurance companies to cover autism treatments and services. In the absence of this coverage, families often pay as much as they can out of pocket for services that can cost up to $50,000 per year.  These high expenditures often risk not only their lives but also the lives of their unaffected children- essentially mortgaging their entire futures.

This petition is an effort to get the Nevada House Bill (BDR-44) passed by the Legislature this session.  The purpose of BDR-44 is to ensure insurance coverage for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.   The insurance bill specifically covers screening and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders and "Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders" which means habilitative or rehabilitative care including counseling, guidance and professional services and treatment programs (applied behavior analysis) & (pharmaceutical care, phychiatric care, physchological care or therapeutic care including Speech, Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy.)

By taking just a moment to sign this petition you can help the hundreds of children and families in Nevada that are being financially affected by this disability.  Thanks for your support!!
