GPS/Remote Emergency Service for Abuse Victims

There are so many women out there who try to leave home and have no where to go, some of them end up homeless, many of them end up returning home. Many people who do find the courage to leave abusive relationships they are unsure who can help them, or just what to do next. Often they leave with very limited financial means, few personal items at best, and what is left of their souls which often feel as though it has been shredded into a thousand pieces. I can recall many nights where I sat hopeless in my car, crying, screaming, and praying that someone... anyone would see me and stop to help, though nobody ever stopped.

I always ended up going back home because I did not know how to contact a shelter and was not sure which ones would have openings for me. Not all shelters are open at night or on weekends to accept new victims. Had I been able to seek help through the press of a button within easy reach, i would have been able to talk to a counsilor, plan an escape, known about financial aid that was available through my state, learned that I could change my social security number, my name, and a host of other items that are too lengthy to list here.

Not only would this device help victims not go back to abusive relationships, it would help them stay out when they needed help. It could be a means to find therapists, support groups, legal aid, and much more. I hope that if this nationwide database goes into effect that each of the automakers pull from the SAME database that can be added to and modified by one source so that all customers have the same information and it can be more easily maintained.

My goal is to petition the makers of Onstar and other automakers who use REMOTE EMERGENCY SERVICE to add a service to victims of domestic violence that will assist them with contacting shelters, counselors, get emotional support, and resources on how to find financial support among others.

Onstar already has councilors available to victims of major disasters. Can you imagine how many lives we can save if the help a victim needs is just at the press of a button in her car? Ideally these devices could be used to contact live advisors who can help victims create escape plans so that they can ensure their escape to safety will be a success.

We, the undersigned support Automakers in the integration of a nationwide Domestic Violence Resource database that would be made available through their innovative Emergency Car Safety device. This device would potentially save many lives though providing victims with information regarding contact information for shelters, police, councelors, escape plans, among a mariad of other resources.

We, the undersigned, believe that Automakers such as GM, BMW, and FORD already have the resources such as Advisors, equipment, and creativity to integrate this into their "Crisis Assist" portion of their existing services. We, the undersigned believe that this service could potentially save many lives as well as help victims get past the trauma that is invariably caused from domestic violence.
