WHEREAS, despite the opposition of the respected community leaders of Alley Cat Allies, and the objections of Fairfax County Animal Control, a longstanding feral cat colony residing in a Chantilly, Virginia, trailer park, monitored and fed by residents and by Alley Cat Allies, has been targeted for brutal EXTERMINATION by EQUITY LIFESTYLE PROPERTIES, INC., and
WHEREAS, such cruel and mercenary conduct is nauseous, unethical, and repugnant in the eyes of any reasonable man or woman, acting reasonably; and
WHEREAS, any number of humane alternatives have been summarily discarded by Equity Lifestyle Properties, Inc., in the interest of trapping and killing as many cats and kittens as quickly as possible; and
WHEREAS, the sole objective of the monstrously cruel exercise is to coax upper income homebuyers to purchase new homes, in a glutted housing market that can bear no new buyers;
NOW, THEREFORE, we signers of this petition urge Equity LifeStyle Properties, Inc., and The Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County, Virginia, to cease and desist from this mad, deplorable scheme, lest the dark sins of the elders cast a shadow upon Virginia children, grandchildren, and descendants, to generations yet unborn.

ALLEY CAT ALLIES SUCCESSFULLY NEGOTIATES TO PROTECT VIRGINIA'S CATS!
PRESS RELEASE: http://www.alleycat.org/pdf/pr-chantilly2.pdf
Dear Dave:
After first threatening the lives of the over 200 cats that reside at the Meadows of Chantilly in Virginia, property management company Equity LifeStyle Properties has decided to collaborate with Alley Cat Allies to strengthen the existing Trap-Neuter-Return program. Alley Cat Allies applauds their willingness to partner with us to do what's best for the community and the cats.
Thanks to the more than 2,000 letters from advocates who took action, along with an offer of help from Alley Cat Allies, the company further assessed their situation and agreed to work with us and their residents to ensure the cats' safety.
Alley Cat Allies is working on a plan with Equity LifeStyle Properties. We are poised to mobilize the over 150 local volunteers and organizations who have offered to help in the coming days, weeks, and months to educate residents, find homes for stray cats and kittens, implement deterrents, and coordinate and carry out all aspects of the Trap-Neuter-Return program. If you are willing to offer hands-on assistance, please email us at washdc@alleycat.org.
Sincerely,
Alley Cat Allies
