National Geographic: Practice What You Print

National Geographic should live up to its motto, "inspiring people to care about the planet" by greening their own magazine printing practices.  I urge them to begin using recycled paper and to partner with their paper mill, Verso, to stop their environmentally-damaging paper production methods.

Specifically, I ask National Geographic to partner with Verso to:
(1) Include at least 30% post-consumer content in its magazine paper by 2013;
(2) Dramatically reduce Verso%u2019s pollution into Maine's Androscoggin River in order to meet 1972 Clean Water Act standards; and,
(3) Continually improve the environmental characteristics of the paper used by National Geographic%u2019s publications.

In other words, National Geographic should practice what it prints!

We the undersigned believe that you should live up to your motto, "inspiring people to care about the planet" by greening your own magazine printing practices.  I urge you to begin using recycled paper and to partner with your paper mill, Verso, to stop their environmentally-damaging paper production methods.

Specifically, I ask National Geographic to partner with Verso to:
(1) Include at least 30% post-consumer content in your magazine paper by 2013
(2) Dramatically reduce Verso's pollution of Maine's Androscoggin River
(3) Continually improve the environmental performance of the paper used in your magazine.

In other words, if National Geographic wants to be an environmental leader, you should practice what you print!
