DEVELOPER-THREATENS-THE-ECOSYSTEM-
OF-THE-TODOS-SANTOS-BARRIER-DUNES

A natural oasis environment along the Pacific Coast in Baja California Sur, the area in and around Todos Santos is an ecological jewel. From majestic palm groves and natural springs, protected by the Sierra La Laguna mountain range, to the beautiful and wild beaches, more and more visitors have been discovering what the locals have known for generations... that Todos Santos is indeed a magical place.

As more folks have discovered the beauty of this oasis, human impact on the pristine environment was inevitable. Ocean Development has subdivided a portion of the Barrier Dunes of Todos Santos into nearly 100 narrow lots.  These lots are located on dunes in a critical area that protects the neighborhoods behind them from severe storms.  Equally important, the dunes provide shelter and nesting sites for five of the seven species of marine turtles listed with CITES ( Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). Three are classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Redlist, including the Leatherbacks. The developer%u2019s promotion to "build your dream house here" on these dune lots, threatens the existence of their nesting habitats. The glow from lights on dune homes would also inhibit nesting, confusing nesting females and hatchlings.

We must preserve the natural beauty of this coastline!

These barrier dunes should not be allowed to be sold or built upon. Mexico's environmental laws and development standards are not strict enough to protect its coastlines and it is difficult to battle the dollar signs in %u201Cdeep-pocketed%u201D developers%u2019 eyes. We must double our efforts NOW to lobby for existing environmental restrictions to be enforced and tougher restrictions to be put in place to protect this precious coastline.

Your help is needed to stop this reckless and harmful development! Sign the petition to Preserve the Coastline of Baja California Sur

We the undersigned call upon the Municipal, State, and Federal agencies of the government of Mexico to act to Preserve and Protect our rights to enjoy all the ecological habitats and natural resources of the Pueblo Magico of Todos Santos. This should be done by implementing the following steps:
1. Creating a local ordinance suspending any construction on our fragile Dunes ecosystem
2. Acting to permanently put in place a Federal Protection Zone for our Coastal Lagoons, Wetlands, Palm Groves, Turtle Nesting Sites, and Dunes
3. Ensuring and Maintaining Public Access to our Beaches.

Thank you for helping us protect the Oasis of Todos Santos for future Generations!
