Protect Zimbabwe's Wildlife @Kariba Wildlife Park

It will be 2 years since the events surrounding Tusker aka Dustbin resulted in his death. Those whom abused him have never been brought to justice and the party continues. Both are an intolerable, Let us make a stand for what is right and put an end to this.

Let the Zimbabwe Government know we have not forgotten him, let some good come from his senseless death, the protection of those left behind.

Honorable Sirs,
We the undersigned request that annual event held on New Years Eve at Charara, Kariba National Park and Wildlife preserve be permanently disbanded.  It is our belief that the National Anglers Union of Zimbabwe, the sponsor of said event is in violation of Zimbabwe Laws protecting the wildlife in the Wildlife park. Further, it is our belief that the National Anglers Union of Zimbabwe has a blatant disregard for both Zimbabwe law, and its views on conservation as well as Zimbabwe Government's right to manage said parks.
We also contend that this event poses a threat to the wildlife in Kariba, due to improper contact with the wildlife as seen in the case of a 50 year old resident bull elephant named Tusker aka Dustbin which resulted in his death Jan 6,2008. We believe also that this could result in an injury or death to a human as the more docile elephants are no longer in the area, should contact occur.
This is a tragedy in the making, The events of the 2008 event are only a precursor to what may yet come. We have already received reports with regard to the most recent Charara New Year's Party. Fireworks were set off despite warning signs prohibiting this and there was no evidence of anyone in authority present to try and prevent it. There were 11 bull elephants in the area and they were becoming increasingly aggravated by the cars, motor bikes and quad bikes speeding around. In one instance, one of the elephants mock-charged a vehicle. Fortunately nobody was hurt this time but there is no guarantee that somebody won't be hurt or even killed in the future. There are no measures in place to ensure the party-goers drive at a safe speed. It is also our hope that in the case of the elephant Tusker aka Dustbin that a full investigation be launched by Zimbabwe Wildlife Authorities and that those responsible for the abusive acts upon his person be forthwith held accountable, we request humbly that they are either charged with animal abuse, or that their visa's into the Republic of Zimbabwe will be denied in the future, and that The National Anglers Union of Zimbabwe should be held accountable for the actions of its members, on the night of Jan 1, 2008. As sponsor for this annual event they share in the responsibility both then and in any future tragedy that could result from their insistence that this annual event be continued, and refusal to move this event to a safer location.
Honorable Sirs we hope you will take action and show the world that Zimbabwe laws on wildlife protection and conservation will be upheld, that those who treat them with disdain will be held accountable for their actions.
Thank you
We the undersigned,
