We, the undersigned, urge the Mountain View City Council to reject the development proposal for the property at 450 N. Whisman, otherwise known as the "Hetch Hetchy Property." The current proposal calls for 58 3-story rowhouses, and 6 2-story small lot single family homes, on land under which the Hetch Hetchy pipelines run. We believe that the land has potential for a quality housing development, but the current proposal is too dense and too massive. It is not a good fit with the existing neighborhood and does not add to the livability and walkability of Mountain View. We urge the City Council to set the requirements that any future proposals have the following guidelines: A maximum height of nearby 2-story homes, a minimum of 25 feet between buildings, and an overall lower density that reflects the buildable land (which is only 55% of the parcel's 6.4 acres). If development is an investment in our City's future, then we must do the right thing and make it a plan of high quality and a good fit with the existing neighborhood.
Keep up the great work. Look what you've accomplished!
