A lack of federal funding for the distributed computing project of Seti@home is about to shut down an important project which has sparked a distributed computing revolution. Go to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ for more information.
We are displeased with the decision to halt funding for the Arecibo Radio Telescope. This telescope collects data for the distributed computing project that started them all; Seti@home. Seti@home is on the leading edge of distributed computing and is testing technologies and methods which will be used for other projects such as Climate Prediction.net and Fight Aids@home (sub-project of world community grid). Without Seti@home these projects would go without progress and would be unable to continue doing the science calculations critical to our success as a country and planet.
