Dear Sir/Madam,

We, the undersigned, Fulbright Students and world citizens for the promotion of education and peace, call on the policy makers at the U.S. Department of State to urge Israel to issue exit visas to our fellow Fulbright grantees in Gaza, Palestine.
We would like to denounce this act of injustice and hindrance to the right of every individual to pursue knowledge and education. The Fulbright Scholarship is the world's most prestigious program for educational excellence and achievement. But above all, it is a program that has as its core mission fostering peace and mutual understanding between nations and peoples.
We would like these to remain the ideals of the Fulbright Scholarship accessible to anyone, anywhere, at any time; and we would like our fellow Palestinian Fulbright Grantees to be given their right to benefit from them, regardless of  political conflicts and nonsensical decisions.

Thank you for considering our petition and thank you for your support,

Hi everyone,

I am pleased to announce to you that our fellow Gazan Fulbrighters finally had their grants reinstated by the Department of State!

Thank you all for signing this petition. Our petition was sent to the US Department of State and to AMIDEAST.
This only proves that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE!

Below is the link to the good news :o)

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/02/world/middleeast/02fulbright.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

There are still, however, around 600 students in Gaza (non-Fulbrighters) who are not able to benefit from their study-abroad programs because of the siege.

We hope that all of you who signed this petition and who believe in the freedom of movement and the right to education could join hands one more time and help put pressure on the Israeli government to grant exit visas to the remaining Gazan student grantees.

The new petition is below. Please pass the word along.

Best regards,

Amina

Studying abroad is the best way a person really lives and internalises the principles of cohabitation with people of different nationalities, races, religions and cultures. That will help in his/her tolerance for the rest of his/her life. Let them live the experience and learn!

Allowing Fulbright recipients to be educated abroad is exactly the kind of thing which will foster understanding and international cooperation. It is hypocritical in the extreme to not allow them to leave.

Everyone in this world should deserve equal education. Not even a war can prevent someone to get his/her education. This petition is to support Palestinian Fulbrighters that being prevented from going out of Gaza to get their education.

Exchange of ideas and ideals seems exactly what Fulbright wished to achieve with the grants. We should fight to pursue these goals by helping _all_ Fulbright scholars complete their studies no matter who is trying to block them.

Our international intellectual exchange is everyone's heritage and to everyone's advantage. It is an injustice done to these Fulbright grantees if they are not granted exit visas. This type of discrimination does not bring honor to any country. The withdrawal of Fulbright grants by the U.S. government or a refusal by Israel to give exit visas to the Fulbright scholars of Gaza does a disservice to everyone. I urge all concerned to reconsider this benighted policy.

I have to say that our academic community and my own personal experience have been profoundly enriched by the relationships I have had with the Palestinian students here at the University of Denver. If we allow for exit visas to be withheld from these scholars in Palestine,we are not only permitting an injustice to take place, but we are also doing a diservice to ourselves.

An educated Palestinian populace and a strong intellectual culture in the Palestinian territories are integral components of a peace settlement between Israel and Palestine. A withdrawal of Fulbright grants by the U.S. government or a refusal by Israel to allow the Fulbright scholars of Gaza exit visas would be direct attacks on intellectual freedom, intercultural exchange, and the future of both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples. I urge the U.S. State Department to do everything possible to prevent this injustice.

I applaud the news that the U.S. State Department has reinstated the scholarships to our fellows from Gaza and hope that the Israeli Government take one more step to ensure that the Palestinian students can come to the U.S. and enrich themselves with the Fulbright experience, as I did in the past and as many more students from the world did.

Jewish political thought and literature has been an example of tolerance and cosmopolitism in many ways. It is shame for Israel society that this open-mind behaviour is now under question. We must continue building bridges between peoples in spite of other extra struggles. Culture is a very good path for building a new world. Dr Agustin Guimera

The denial of visas to these Fulbright Fellows is a violation of the spirit and principles of the Fulbright program. As former Fulbright Fellow I urge the State Department to do everything possible to rectify this situation.

You want a peaceful future, so how does depriving people from their education serve this cause? I agree with the pertitioner from France that Palestian Fulbrighters like any other Fulbrighter returning home after their year abroad could become great ambassadors for democracy, peace and mutual understanding.

Depriving people from education is counterproductive to achieve a peaceful future. Palestian Fulbrighters like any other Fulbrighter returning home after their year abroad could become great ambassadors for democracy, peace and mutual understanding.

I am currently a Fulbrighter here in Madrid Spain, and this experience has been one of the most rewarding and important in my life. Denying this opportunity to deserving individuals is not fair, and so I urge the US State Department to take urgent action to ensure the Palestinian Fulbrighters can study in the U.S.
