OSPCA Delivers Unjust Death Sentence to Hundreds of Animals

99 Already Killed ... Hundreds More Companion Animals Are Awaiting Their Turn!
Ontario SPCA Hosts Mass Execution Plan For All Sheltered Companion Animals
These animals are not guilty of anything except being abandoned, neglected & forgotten.  Animals don't have a voice, they need us to give them a voice.
We are trying to Implement Provincial Oversight over OSPCA, as clearly the protection  and prevention of cruelty to these animals is in question!     (visit to learn more)
In May 2010 Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals launched plans of a mass execution to ALL animals in their Newmarket shelter. Public outrage, via protestors, phone calls and a steady stream of media brought the plans to a halt - sadly not before 99 of the innocent animals were unjustifiably euthanized.  This awarded hundreds of the remaining animals a temporary "Stay of Execution".
June 1, 2010 Local MPP,  Honourable Frank Klees took concerns directly to Queen's Park, on behalf of the animals and furious citizens.  Resolution that Government of Ontario review the powers and authority given to all animal shelter services province wide. This will be back in debate as early as November 18, 2010.  Leaving not much time.  Please share this with a handful of friends and encourage them to do the same.  Changes like this could lead to change nationally or even internationally.

Petition to the Parliament of Ontario

We the undersigned hold the following concerns.

Whereas the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) recently and unilaterally announced that it would euthanize all animals in its care at its Newmarket shelter citing a ringworm outbreak as justification;

Whereas the euthanasia plan was stopped in the face of repeated calls for a stay

in the legislature and by the public, but not until 99 animals had been killed;

Whereas the Premier and Community Safety Minister Rick Bartolucci refused to act

claiming the provincial government has no jurisdiction over the OSPCA;

Therefore, we the undersigned, petition the Parliament of Ontario to immediately implement the Resolution tabled at Queen's Park by Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees on June 1, 2010 which reads as follows:

That, in the opinion of this House, the Ontario Legislature call on the Government of Ontario to review the powers and authority granted to the OSPCA under the OSPCA Act and to make the necessary legislative changes to bring those powers under the authority of the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services to ensure that there is a clearly defined and effective provincial oversight of all animal shelter services in the province, and to separate the inspection and enforcement powers of the OSPCA from its functions as a charity providing animal shelter services.

We thank you for your attention to this most urgent and necessary matter.  We look forward to the changes needed for the welfare of Ontario%u2019s animals. It would be an enormous victory for the country to implement these changes nationwide and would be dignified for Ontario%u2019s leaders to lead by example.
