The Michigan Promise Scholarship, a merit based scholarship enacted in 2006, has been eliminated from the State of Michigan's budget for the 2010 fiscal year. This scholarship is quite often the deciding factor whether or not students decide to further their education. The MI Promise has become a vital scholarship to our future work force, visionaries and leaders. If this Scholarship is eliminated the future of 96,000 students education is in jeopardy.
"I could not disagree more with the Legislature's short-sighted action on this issue... The Michigan Promise Scholarship is an investment in Michigan's future. It is critical to our economic prosperity... Throughout the budget process this year I stood up for the Michigan Promise Scholarship. Now I need you to stand with me." -Governor Granholm
A supplemental budget bill that calls for the reinstatement of the Michigan Promise Scholarship has already passed in the House of Representatives now it will be passed on to the Senate.
Please join us in calling upon the members of our Senate to preserve the Michigan Promise Scholarship. Thank you
We the undersigned are joining together to urge you to preserve the Michigan Promise Scholarship. The recipients of this scholarship will soon emerge to be the leaders of this nation but they need help getting there. This scholarship is not just the future of its recipients, but every Michigan resident.
The Michigan Promise Scholarship is critical to making higher education financially attainable. It is also a key factor in Michigan's economic strategy to diversify our economy. Please vote to preserve the Michigan Promise Scholarship and assist our emerging leaders in furthering their education.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration
