No Cuts to Chicago Music, Arts & Cultural Programs!

Target:
Mayor Daley & Aldermen
Sponsored by:

Music, arts and cultural programs presented by the city of Chicago are threatened by severe budget cuts. We can't let this happen! Sign the petition to save these programs.

**Update: We're going past 1,000, thanks to you! We raised the goal so let's keep building our momentum. Spread the word!**

Our city is known around the world for its free music programming that not only brings enjoyment to hundreds of thousands of fans and adds to the richness of our civic culture, but also generates jobs and income for local businesses.

If you value programs like Blues Fest, Jazz Fest, the World Music Festival, SummerDance and Millennium Park concerts including Music Without Borders, Downtown Sound and much more, please do your part. City budget hearings are underway, and you can make a difference. If you do nothing, these programs could be cut back sharply. SIGN THE PETITION NOW, THEN PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

I am deeply concerned about funding cuts to city music and cultural programming. I enjoy the free festivals, series and concerts presented by the city. These concerts showcase Chicago music to the world, and bring a world of music to Chicago audiences. They also create jobs and bring money into the local economy. I strongly urge you to fight for a city budget that does not reduce funding for city music, arts and cultural programming, or in any way cut back the number of events or festival days presented in the coming year.

I love visiting Chicago to see music and art and it's wonderful creative side. That what keeps the city alive with flavor! Please keep the music scene alive, it makes sense in the long run and will keep people flowing into and through the city.

My name is Jason and I am a product of Chicago music and art programs. Without the programs I would not have learn the ideas of team and being an individual of a team and being heard in a chorus of many. Please do not allow these programs to be cut. I was born and raised in Chicago, and was lucky enough to experience free music at Grant Park in the 60's. Keep it free in Chicago.

As a working musician and music student at Columbia College Chicago this is something that could effect my well being. This neeeds to end with this petition, Music, and Art are the two most important things we can learn from. They are the reason we are human and what makes humans special compared to any other animal on the planet....we have the power to create! Do not take that power away from us!

The music, arts & cultural programs of Chicago keep this city alive. Being a new parent, I want to be able to share all of it with my daughter. Don't cut funding.

Chicago's Music, Arts & Cultural Programs are the single reason why every February I don't leave Chicago for warmer climates. Most cities in the world let alone the United States can't compare to our programs for the arts and the support that those of us in the arts receive from our fair city.

For Chicago to truly be considered a world-class city, it must support the arts the way other cities do.

I attend most of the free Chicago music festivals for multiple days and have been doing so across multiple years. I truly consider these festivals integral to the city's identity as THE live music capital of the world (under-appreciated and under-publicized, even by locals who take it for granted). While I am lucky enough to be able to afford ticketed (paid concerts), many cannot afford this luxury and it would be a shame to shut them out of the fine music this city has to offer as well as the worldwide talent brought to our front door each summer. If the free shows need to be justified in some way, tie the freebies to some paid shows as our World Music Festival and other cities already do. This will bring additional revenue to the city. Please keep the free concerts coming!

The arts are what make Chicago a distinctive city in the Midwest. Cut it off and it might as well be a corn field.

If it were not for these cultural programs many of the city's underprivileged would have to do without it. It is an intracate component to the health of the human psyche . .please we must keep it alive!

Keep it free for freeing events! The moment someone mentions "free" there are no quarrels about whether or not to go- there are no expectations, there are no qualms if it doesn't satisfy. It is a freeing experience, for free. These fests satisfy in many ways, and bring people together; creating a community full of diverse individuals, celebrating beauty through music. Take this away, you take away freeing experiences, and beauty through community. Not to mention these tend to get people outdoors in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and forget that their economy will soon have a dirge and an epitaph to it's name.

Cutting cultural programming when it's needed most is short sighted and wrong. Please preserve these forms of artistic expression.

Millenium Park isn't just for the tourists, it's for the people who live here to enjoy, too. One of the best things about it is the awesome line up of concerts- c'mon, you're not going to let that bandshell just sit there getting rusty, are you?
