On 29 October 2009, Still Woods, (officially known as the Plantation, Long Ashton) was closed to mountain bikers by landowners Bristol University. This brought a close to over 5 years' use of the site as a venue where challenging riding could take place in relative safety.
We want Still Woods to stay open as a venue for mountain biking.
We oppose the attempts by Bristol University to stop people using the site .
We wish for all work to be halted until an open discussion on the future of the woods can be agreed by all.
We are prepared to work with the University to secure the future use of the land and meet any requirements that may entail.

Still woods is one of the only challenging areas for cycling that you can get to without a car in Bristol. I thought Bristol was a cycling city but now I'll have to drive somewhere else to pursue my hobby. Don't take it away!

What future for the UK's next generation when every positive outlet is denied them - and from an institution that should pride itself on positive and health development of our youth. This is an act of utmost cowardice by Bristol Uni to deny the people of the area without proper consultation or consideration. Disgraceful, and they should be ashamed. I urge them to reconsider, and step up to the institution's core responsibilies towards healthy social development.

Access to local woodland for mountain biking, minutes from the city, is one of Bristol's best assets, making it a superb place to live. Please don't shut off this valuable resource unnecessarily.

Still Woods - adds to the variety of riding in Bristol and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle ... i cant imagine what better use that bit of land needs? Im sure everyone who is serious about riding would happily pay a small fee for the up keep if neccesary.

I have walked, ran, cycled and generally enjoyed still woods for over 5 years, and with Bristol being given the cycle city banner this closure is madness and Bristol University should be ashamed of themselves for trying to move against Bristolians who are trying to embrace cycling in all its forms.

instead of going out drinking i now prefere to go riding to still woods l have spoke to so many people there who find it a fantastic place to go and ride instead of hanging round streets etc there is nowhere near that can match this place its obviously taken years to get to the standard it is and would be such a shame to get rid of it!

Places such as Still provide a great diversion for for all of it's users and help build a strong community. Many of the riders are youngsters who have little enough to entertain them in the world as it is. Surely a few grazed knees is much better than forcing kids to hang out on the street.

Bristol is one of the UK's premier cycling cities, we already have some great resources but good downhill facilities are rare anywhere in the UK and to permanently lose Still Woods would be a huge loss not just to Bristol bikers but to the whole region. If any kind of managed solution which meant the woods could stay open to bikers can be found then it is worth the effort to make it happen.

# 115:

Truely short sighted decision. All it will do is turn the mountain bikers into criminals as the site will be broken into and the trails rebuilt, then people will have to be re-employed to destroy them and the uni will have to employ security guards for a forest!!! How ridiculous. Organise it properly and make some money out of it.
