The Illinois River and its tributaries make up a unique Ozark ecoregion watershed in northeastern Oklahoma, with exquisite natural resource features, often in a delicate karst or cavey landscape. A riparian zone of 1.5 miles on each side should be observed by all, so that all may enjoy its water and its wildlife.
We, the undersigned, encourage the responsible entities to halt, cease and prevent the deployment of poultry facilities within the Illinois River Watershed ad its tributaries within 1.5 miles of the flood plain. That would include poultry operations (except for homeowners with 100 chickens or less), within 1.5 miles of the flood plain of the Illinois and its tributaries.

If this involved automotive or any other manufacturing industry, this would have been stopped years ago. The chicken industry can surely afford to do the right thing. This is a simple matter of greed.

Please preserve our river. It is one of our greatest assets in an economically deprived area. A beautiful, healthy river stabilizes real estate value, creates vacation and recreation revenue, and maintains our ecosystem. Let's be smart about poultry facility waste. This is not the place to dump!

This is a huge problem throughout NE Oklahoma and around the country. See the movie Shall We Gather At The River. Also notice the e-coli outbreaks in NE Oklahoma in the past year or so, well water contaminations, closing of entire campground at Lake Eucha and condo community at Grand Lake, etc.

As a regular visitor and former citizen of the Illinois river basin in Oklahoma, I support all measures to preserve and cleanly maintain the river and its tributaries. If not for the current citizens then, please, consider future generations and the impact your decisions today will have on them.

With the challanges Oklahoman's and all U.S. Citizens are already beginning to experience because of Environmental Pollution and Global Warming this issue should not even be in question. Keep the Illinois River and its tributaries prestine and Industrial Size Chicken Waste Free! Please, for our sake and the sake of future generations of Oklahoman's and for a beautiful, healthy environment protect one of Oklahoma's most precious areas. So many have already been spoiled.

It's a shame that we have to ask for governmental protection but the damage done to the Illinois River is very evident to anyone who has been around it. If big business (or small businesses) will not keep clean on their own we have to have regulations.

A few words spring to mind but you've probably heard 'sellout' and 'chickenshit' so often they wouldn't have much effect. So let me just remind you that you are supposed to be working for live human beings - the People. Please remember that no matter how large the bribe, I mean 'contribution', you have NO duty to non-human bloodless corporations that seek only money.
