Support Seat Belts on School Buses - Belt Up for Safety

To Kristina Kenneally, Premier
Standing on buses should be abolished immediately on all school buses travelling on routes with 80kmph and above and seatbelts made on all high risk and extremely high risk routes.
Since 1995 seatbelts have been mandatory on coaches - and in cars since 1972 - yet are not available to NSW school children travelling on high risk country bus routes, such as those involving speeds of 100kmph on single lane stretches of the Pacific Highway.

A Seatbelts for Kids funding program of $40 million was announced in 2007 by Prime Minister John Howard. Very few bus companies in NSW have applied for the $25,000 subsidy per bus because their contracts with the NSW Ministry of Transport do not require them to.
Why, with over $36 million in allocated funding available are our regional school children still travelling on school buses without a seatbelt ?"
We are asking for a review of the legislation as to address this issue with major bus companies.
We thank you for your consideration. We doubt that you would allow your own children Daniel or Brendan travelling on buses without seat belts on Highways at 100kms/h!
