Caring for our community... one sip at a time!

We Do Recover!

Target:
Local and Provincial Government Funding for Non Profit Ventures
Sponsored by:

This petition is to show the need of a non profit cafe designed as a community resource centre for those in recovery or seeking recovery from addiction and mental health issues.

Our mission is to provide a safe place for people in recovery, as well as professionals in the field and family members or friends that are affected by those in recovery, to relax and enjoy themselves in an informative environment.

The Serenity Cafe intends to work alongside other local community organizations to provide our clientele with the best service and resources for people dealing with mental health and addiction issues. We work together, not in competition of each other. The cafe is part of the operation but not all of it. There will be meeting areas for 12 step programs and community groups, as well as for speakers and information sessions.

This petition is to show the want and need from the public to secure funding for this innovative project.

Serenity Cafe Inc. is an innovative way of caring for our community - one sip at a time!

I am a grateful recovering addict, who has witnessed first hand the harm that both the disease of addiction can do, and mental health issues. Its time society steps up to the plate to deal with this, because we are all brothers and sisters. Do unto others....

It will promote awareness, openmindedness, and maybe instill the need to do more. What is enough? Is that how I want to live my life? Just good enough? No, I want to go to any length necessary to stay clean, be truly happy and do whatever I can so that no addict ever need die again.

Helping wonderful people recover from a devastating affliction should surely be encouraged.

We need to provide a safe, non-confrontational place for people to find encouragement and strength.

I think this is a great social enterprise concept to promote mental health, recovery and education. To that end, I endorse the petition. I hope it receives some government funding to get it started. With that said, I also hope the management and patrons can make the idea, once launched, truly sustainable by transforming it into a business success.

Hamilton needs people that are passionate and relentless about making our world and communinities better places to live and work in. The Serenity Cafe is the manifastation of this type of passion and effort. It is an idea worth pursuing.

There is a need for a safe place for people with mental health &/or substance abuse issues to meet and share their experiences, strenths & hopes.

As noted above...being "SAFE", it can offer an attractive alternative to to the "street" for those who for whatever reason may not have access to other safe (treatment) facilities etc.

This is important to me because as I have seen there isnt many things available for those who suffer from Mental Health Issues.Alot of my friends and family including myself all suffer not only addiction but also from mental health. So I feel this is very beneficial for anyone who suffers in any way either it be from addiction or mental health.

I think it will do wonders for the downtown core.It will start bringing people together to help each other and education themselves to take care of themselves knowing there is help out there and people really do care.

Why? Do you really think I can fit it all in this small space? The magnitude of this issue cannot be seen in a box. You'll find it inside, where your struggles and insecurities come from.

Anywhere... somewhere... PLEASE!!

I am in recovery for 15 years,I was lucky enough to have the support of my family and friends, but I know a lot of people that aren't that lucky, and they need the support...any town that can provide this is better for it...the next thing to is try to eliminate the predjudice of the situation..that's a lot harder....

Any one that's in the postition of trying to recover needs a place of non-descrimination and relief to be able to accomplish what they need to do. If friends and relatives are able to be present that helps that much more.

# 29:

It will help other recovering addicts to be together without having them go to a meeting where the possibilty for relapse is high. Due to the peopel that come and go to the meetings

Hamilton needs a place for recovering people to meet and share.

The Hamilton core had a coffee shop that was open to the public and alot of people in recovery would go there after meetings to meet and share. The Serenity Cafe would provide this again and be beneifical to alot of people.

Because I am a recovering addict and need all the help and support that I can get.

Hamilton is plagued with crack dealers and crack and pill junkies --- Most addicts don't evne know of a better way - a way to change their lives -- it's time to invest in the hurting people of this city

Because I am new to Hamilton. Infusions offers a great support network, awesome staff and hey... the coffee's good too. In a big and crazy city, there's one same place you can always go to for a cup of coffee and just to talk with another person in recovery.

The core of Hamilton is, well, to but lightly...pretty nuts. Drugs are always easily accessable and triggers everywhere for the new commer. Knowing that there's a safe place to go for a cup of Joe, if even just until your bus comes...makes a huge difference. Thanks:>)

Supporting this program by providing business mentorship. As a community voluneeter I think this program would have a positive impact for changing people's lives.

Provides a place for the target audience to go - that is "in their neighbourhood". Will be more likely to go to the cafe if it is easily accessible.

Every body has somebody in their family or knows somebody that is affected by addictions of one kind or another. The best way for addicts to get help is for them to help each other. The true experts on addiction and recovery are the addicts themselves. A place like serenity cafe will provide a much needed venue for addicts to share their recovery with one another.

It will be a visible presence to the addicts out there that do not know there is another way to live. That they too can recover from addiction. And they can have a safe place to hear the message of recovery.

# 13:

I am a recovering addict, the availability of a venue of this nature would increase the value of my recovery.

Hamilton would do well to have an establishment of this type in its core, promoting clean and sober living.

Recovery from what ails us is good. This establishment provides a place for people to seek others like themselves that will provide guidance and support as they find thier own recovery.....

These people who seek and find their path to recovery will become productive members of society instead of burdens to it.

I feel that there is a definate need for a place like this where people can go for information and support.

It would give many people a place to go that is non-threatening, a place to help them grow. There is a need in Hamilton, as well as in other major cities

# 7:
9:09 am PDT, Aug 11, Joseph Joslin, Canada
this issue is important to me because as a recovering addict it offers me the hope of connecting with other recovering addicts to share in commaradery, and to reinforce my belief that I'm not alone in my struggle to stay clean there is strength in numbers.....

I see this cafe as benefit to the downtown area as a place where people can go and sit back enjoy the atmosphere, served by people who were once frowned upon who are now acceptable, responsible and productive members of society. Hopefully we may serve someone who is still in active addiction and just maybe that person will get that glimmer of hope, that they too, can change their lives around if they see that one can enjoy a life without drugs

I think it would help alot of people who are suffering from addiction and perhaps reach more people to find recovery.

As the owner of a small business in this city, I believe that Hamilton is long overdue for something like this.

I believe that people with mental health and addictions recover faster when they are in an environment that promotes wellness, and have the chance to surround themselves with people who have either recovered from addictions or survived the mental health system. There are a lot of people suffering in Hamilton, and I think that the serenity cafe is the ideal solution.

My dear cousin is involved with Serenity and I have seen the strength that the people involved in this project have given her and the help that she can give to other people through her associations with this organization.

There are very few resources available which can function as a gateway to real help for those who need and desire help. The need is growing constantly while the availability of gateway resources remains limited. By offering aid at a critical juncture I also below that more intensive and lengthier treatment can be avoided.
