I wanted to take a moment to thank you for signing the Shawnee Trash Freedom of Choice Petition and also update you on where we are as of today. To date, 636 residents of Shawnee have signed the petition, and calls of concern continue to come in to me. The petition was instrumental in slowing down the city's march to a trash monopoly, but has not completely stopped it from trying to move closer towards a one trash hauler. As it stands now, the city is making the regulations tougher so that it will be harder for the smaller haulers to stay in Shawnee. The smaller haulers are trying to work with the city to make sure that they are not forced out of business by unnecessary over-regulation. I will keep you apprised of the situation as it progresses.
