Stop Shawnee Animal Control from Killing Breed Specific Dogs

We, the undersigned, request that Shawnee Animal Control, of Shawnee, Ok., be forced to stop the killing of innocent dogs. There is NO breed ban in Shawnee, Ok. Yet, Shawnee Animal Control is gassing specific dogs simply because they appear to 'look' like one of the breeds deemed dangerous.

In addition, we are asking that Shawnee be made to use a painless form of euthanization for those that are 'truly' unadoptable, instead of the archaic gassing system presently used.

The dogs at Shawnee have done nothing wrong to warrant euthanization, except come into the world appearing to look like a 'particular breed'. Most aren't even Pitbulls, and even if they were, we can't euthanize an entire breed, just because 'some' bite. These dogs, according to Shawnee, "look" like one of the dangerous breeds, but 'a look' does NOT, in ANY way, make an animal deadly. There is no law that justifies these senseless murders.

If one of these animals actually bit someone, that would be different, but the majority of these animals are gentle as lambs. We can not murder 'all' Pitbulls, Rottweilers, Shepherds, Huskies. or any 'specific breed' just because 'some' are used in drug and fighting rings. That would be like killing off entire races, religions, and populations in various countries, just because 'some' choose to break the law or 'look' like they might.

Rescues wish to pull many of these animals. They want to vet them, retrain them, and find them proper homes, so that the animals are not forced to die, needlessly. Yet, many times, they are turned away. Shawnee Animal Control refuses to allow them to take the dogs.

The world is watching! We pray that Shawnee Animal Control will be stopped from continuing the senseless slaughter of innocent victims in their care.

Thank you,
