Support Equestrian Trails at Prophetstown State Park, BattleGround Indiana

Target:
Local and state wide equestrians who are hoping to get more local trails in the state
Sponsored by:

PETITION IN SUPPORT OF EQUESTRIAN TRAILS AT PROPHETSTOWN STATE PARK

Due to the lack of trail riding facilities in Tippecanoe and surrounding counties, we, the undersigned, petition the State of Indiana to consider the addition of equestrian trails at Prophetstown State Park.

Central Indiana does not have a lot of trails that local trail riders (equestrian) can easily drive to for a day ride.  With the price of fuel continuing to increase, it would be ideal to open up even a few more miles of trails in a local State Park.  Not only will this benefit the trail riders who would be able to drive a much shorter distance to get a relaxing ride, the state would also benefit from the revenue that the equestrians will bring into that park and the local businesses as well.

Governor Daniels has been opening up more to keep OUR money in OUR state.  We have riders coming from out of state all the time.  Our parks are starting to see the benefit of opening more areas to horse trails.

Wake up America, horse people spend a lot of money and Governor Daniels has recognized this and has been very supportive to the equestrian community.  Deam Lake, O'Bannon, Interlake, more local trail support for everyone.

The closest equestrian trails are 90 min from me. Lafayette is 20 min away. Consider the increase in spending from people coming in from all over NW central Indiana. Gas, food/drinks, etc...

I would appreciate the opportunity of not having to trailer my horse for 90 minutes to a different State Park, when I live 5 minutes from Prophetstown! It would be an ideal place to allow horseback riding with its wide open spaces and easy accessability.

We ride our horses every week from Feb to Dec, at least once in a state park. Profitstown is close to my daughter's home in Lafayette and it would be so nice to have an opportunity to actually ride our horses in the lovely area of Tippicanoe Co.

We own two horses and mainly trail ride. Since moving to central Indiana 2 years ago from southern Missouri we have noticed a definite lack of riding areas. Any additional equestrian usage trails would be greatly appreciated by the Chamberlain family. Please keep us responsible horsemen and horsewomen in mind when looking for ways to spend our tax dollars. Sincerely, Evelyn and Adam Chamberlain

I have two horses and trail ride all year trailering to parks and forests around this state and adjoining ones. It would be a MAJOR help to me and my horse riding friends if we had riding trails closer to us.

I have been using the State Parks Horse trails for the last 25 yrs. and hope to continue for a long time. It would be very nice to have more trails closer to us. Maybe we could go more often!! We have a study group that gets together to ride and camp. There are about 10-12 that get to go. I hope this will go through!

I am a trail rider and would love the opportunity to have more trails in the central IN. area to ride. I live close enough to ride at Prophetstown St Park often. Thank you for making this possible.

I am a regular trail use. I take my horses to Indiana State Parks and the Hoosier National Forest a minimum of 6 days a month from April through November. It would be great to have an opportunity in the LAfayette area.

I am all for creating more useable space for those who still enjoy the great outdoors. We should support anyone who is trying to improve their outdoor experience. Thank you!

Trail riding is great recreation and organized places to ride decrease the impact on mature. Horses fit the motif and history of Prophetstown.

Having trails so close would allow me to ride much oftener than I do, since work only allows me time for day rides. Before moving here, I rode at least 2 weekends a month, as well as day rides.

We often drive 4-5 hours to trail ride in the southern half of the state. Having a choice other than Tippecanoe SP or Potato Creek SP in northern Indiana would keep me and my money closer to home.

I ride often on Indiana's equine trails. Please consider adding some to the northern half of the state, particularyly at Phrophetstown State Park. They would be greatly appreciated.

Having access to trails within 20 minutes from home would be a great asset to our operation. Not only would we frequent the state facility more often, but it would be a nice change of scenery for our family. Horse enthusiasts are caring of the environment and there are organizations that can help maintain trails i.e. Indiana Trail Riders Assoc.

Having a safe place to ride within an hours drive is a HUGE benefit. An area that was within 30 minutes was closed several years ago, and we sure learned how much we missed it. Luckily it was opened last year.

As a child, I remember trail ridding with my parents. I havnt forgotton a single one. I now have two boys of my own, I will share that expierence with them. It would be all the better at Phrophetstown.

Most generally I trail ride at either Winamac - Tippecanoe River State Park (1 hour away) or Brown County State Park (2 hrs away). Would LOVE to have some sort of trailriding opportunities close to home...ProphetsTown is only 5 minutes from home!!!

As it stands right now there are only 2 parks that we can go and ride our horses at. It would be nice to have a place closer than 2 hours away to ride. Horse people alike are more respectful of the enviorment than most. We understand that if we want to ride we have to take care of the places that we are alowed to ride at. Im not saying that we are better than anyone else but we do understand resposability. Horses in there own right are a big resonsability. Allowing trails for horses will bring a lot of people to our fine area. Please put horse trails at Prophetstown State Park.

We are trail users at several Indiana Parks locations. Most often using Winamac. We love the outdoors and riding horses on trails. Prophetstown would be a wonderful addition to the recreational needs of this area.

A year ago we purchased a camper/horse trailer for our vacation use, since the cost of traveling out of state to vacation became too costly. We have bought and used our yearly horse tags and park passes faithfully, thus saving our family hundreds of dollars and giving our working dollars back to our state. This is a great opportunity for us Horse People to travel more and more frequently also creating more dollars for the local small towns around our area. Thanks so much for your considering our quest for the Horse Camping Facility and /or riding trails.

We do enjoy our local trails. We ride at J.W. Jones, Brown County and Owen-Putnam. My daughter lived in the Lafayette area during the time that she coached at Purdue, and she did note that there were few places to ride in the area.

I am a trail user when I have the time and extra money to travel 60 miles to the nearest trail with my horse. It would be very nice to have one here in Battle Ground which is in horse country and especially at Prophetstown because I am Native American. What a great way to promote Prophetstown and the rich heritage and history of Tippecanoe County.

I beleive Prophetstown State Park would be better utilized by having equestrian trails. Local trail riders would also benefit by having a place to ride without having to travel so far.
