AKC. CKC and FCI currently recognize all 3 sizes of the American Eskimo. UKC is the only exception, and is taking further steps with its new breed standards to add eliminating faults to undersize dogs which may eventually lead to the elimination of American Eskimos under 11". While UKC does not currently allow Eskies under 11", they are taking additional steps (ie. measuring dogs routinely etc) to proactively remove toy Eskies from competition.
With American Eskimos and American Eskimo breeders working hard to build their breed recognition, this could critically impact the attendance and membership of American Eskimo breeders in UKC and harm the breeds' popularity and public exposure. As American Eskimo Breeders and dog lovers in general, we believe that it is time the UKC recognize the Toy size of the American Eskimo breed, in line with other well recognized organizations.

We have begun a petition to have UKC adopt breed standards to recognize a Toy American Eskimo, in line with AKC and CKC standards.
If you could take the time to sign the petition, to be delivered to the UKC home office, we would appreciate your time!
We signed the "Petition to Recognize "Toy American Eskimo" in UKC" petition!

I agree with what others have posted about the breed's origin and the sizes...toy, mini & standard. I believe that UKC should allow all three sizes to be shown to promote quality dogs in all sizes. Not only that, it would be nice to see the three sizes shown so the toys could earn their points and majors against dogs of their own size, there by earning their Championship separately from the other sizes, minis earning their Championship within their size range, and standards earning their Championships within their size range. This would also give the public the perspective that there ARE three separate sizes instead of looking at the breed and questioning the size range.

Right now toys are shown in UKC as miniatures. Why not go ahead and recognize them for what they are?

Toys have been a part of this breed forever. The American Eskimo was developed mainly from the German Spitz, which currently has 3 sizes comparable to our toy, mini, and standard sizes, so their ancestry alone shows that all 3 sizes should be accepted. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

There is no reason not to recognize the toy size. The squabbling that has gone on over it at UKC American Eskimo club meetings, is silly. If the size would be recognized, it would make perfect sense to change the sizes, so that males and females are the same, in each catogory, instead of females being an inch shorter.

As the owner of a wonderful American Eskimo Dog(toy sized) I would like to see the smaller version of this breed recognized in the UKC.While smaller in size, they are equally as important as the larger sized Esquies. Not everybody can or does have the means in life to be able to live in a house with a big yard. Some of us live in townhomes &/or appartments where the size of a pet is dictated by outside parties. The size of a pet doesn't diminish the value &/or quality of the animal in question! Our Esquie is just as clever & important to us as if he were full sized! It would benefit everyone to allow the smaller size Esquies to be recognized by the UKC.

The American Eskimo Dog has 3 distinct standards and each should be given equal recognition.

Toy American Eskimos have been around for a very long time. I personally feel that the Toy version needs to be recognized by the UKC. It is *NOT* fair if the other three organizations recognize the toy, and the UKC does not. Toys have been produced by legimitate breeders such as Karla Cole or Carolyn Jester (Frostywyt Kennels) for many years. The Frostywyt dogs are just absolutely beautiful. Definetly UKC standard and beyond. It only makes sense if the UKC recognizes toys as well as the minature and the standard.
