Use Vancil city reservoir

  • recipient: Fortuna City Council
We ask that you use the Vancil city reservoir instead of spending $4,000,000 on a new tank.  Budgets are tight, the water fund has debt to pay and other projects remain undone.

--Piping upgrades to deliver additional water for fire fighting have been deferred until 2012 or later.

--Leaking and with earthquake damage, the elevated Holman tank will remain for 2 more years.  It will not be replaced this summer with Vancil storage as planned.

The Vancil city reservoir, built to replace the Stewart Street tanks as the city's reservoir in the 1960's, was renovated last November.  With 5 million gallons, it can provide the needed 2 million gallons of storage and more.

--4 1/2-million gallons is Fortuna's storage need.

--There would be over 7-million gallons of storage in the north with the new tank

--The Campton Heights / Rohnerville area has a water storage shortage.

Please recognize that over 5 million gallons in the north meets the 3 million gallon need and move quickly to complete the piping and pumping improvements to use the city reservoir on Vancil Street for its intended purpose.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this important issue.
