We are all in this together. It is up to the City to recognize the impacts that oil supply no longer meeting demand will have on this metropolis. Vancouver has a massive dependency on oil to bring goods to the people. Proper planning by the City can help soften these impacts, but only the people doing their individual part (BUY LOCAL FOOD, stop eating meat once a week at least) can help this. Bicycles, busses and electical rapid transit are great options too! Let's make this happen! Portland, OR, already has a great one and can be used as a model.

The fact of impending peak oil production has to be factored into the planning for all urban transportation issues. Put your considerable talents and resources behind a movement toward keeping goods, services, and people moving in Metro Vancouver. We need foresight and commitment now.

There already is a very successful planning model for how best to deal with a future of energy descent. This model was created by a task force in Portland, Oregon. I hope that the City of Vancouver will have the foresight to create its own task force to deal with the impending peak oil crisis. Thank you for taking action on this.
Sincerely,
Teri McArter

Energy is THE single largest industrial issue humanity faces. Its time to wake up & face the facts on Peak Oil. Action & much lead time for alternatives is required NOW! What is government doing to either A. disprove Peak Oil exists, or B. prepare society for it?

Whether we deplete oil reserves in the near or far future is not the issue for me. Every time we buy oil, we are helping to fund terrorism. The sooner we find alternative fuels, the safer we will be. If this alternative technology is made in Canada, then our fuel costs will not be held hostage to the whims of oil producers or the fears of the market.

One can only imagine life in a dense urban centre without energy. There would be no more miserable or dangerous place. This pending problem requires Government involvement at all levels. We need to enact legislation which subsidizes and speeds the implementation of promising new technologies. Sunset industries must adapt or give way to new alternatives. All new building projects should meet stringent requirements which incorporate the latest environmental technologies such as green roofs, grey water management, passive solar. Ideally they should deal with all waste including sewage on site. We should be incorporating alternative energy generation techniques in every structure rather than relying on mega projects such as wind farms.

Production peaked in June 2006. Fact. What are you doing about it? You are accountable to the citizens of Vancouver.
