This will be my first year at West Virginia University, so I have not given in the past. However, I feel strongly about a green fund and would be happy to contribute to such a measure.

Dear President Garrison and WVU Foundation Officers I am writing this short letter to encourage you to promote and support sustainability and recycling efforts at WVU and the surrounding Morgantown community. I am set to graduate with a Ph.D. Biology in May 2008 and have witnessed the birth of the recycling program here at WVU. It was encouraging to see this since a similar operation started at my bachelorette aluma mater, Western Washington Univeristy. Western has had a long-standing recycling program that was started and since operated by students since 1971. In addition, it was the first university in the US to go 100% dependent on green power, all based on student initiatives. As some of the buildings on-campus undergo upgrades, please consider ways to reduce the amount of energy used for heating and cooling. As you move forward with plans to decrease energy usage on WVU's campus, I would greatly encourage you to reach out to the student body to assist in this noble effort. A little planning, excitement and outreach to students can go a long way in achieving long-term goals for an energy efficient campus.

The university is in a wonderful position to teach it's students and the state how to be more environmentally responsible. I encourage you to pull out all the stops and greatly increase the effort you invest in these teachings.

I am a current Biology graduate student at WVU with an anticipated graduation of Dec 2009. Greening the campus is very important to me, and I would love to see WVU set an example for other institutions!

As a resident of the area and the spouse of a professor, I realize what a huge impact the University has on this community. In addition to lowering WVU's environmental footprint, this is a chance for the university to be a leader in green initiatives for the community, the State, and the nation.

We contribute to the Library Fund.

I encourage the administrators, alumni, and supporters of West Virginia University to actively pursue developing this Greenfund. Supporting efforts to use energy sustainable can benefit our school in the following ways: 1. Morgantown, WV is infamous for its traffic congestion, parking, and housing shortages. We also have the highest concentration of coal-fired power plants (5) in the nation, which gives us a very poor air quality. We have seen the harmful effects which result from an increasing population and a worsening economy. 2. We need to save money to further our renovations, rebuild the PRT, etc. 3. Making our renovations in a sustainable way will put WVU on the map. We have excellent academic programs, especially the sciences, great (of course) athletics, and friendly people. If we were to also be a leader in the field of environmentalism, we could continue to attract international students and could draw in more hard-working students.

No, I have not. I am a student at the University.
