Please help build & publicize a nationwide non-violent PEOPLE's uprising on Labor Day 2011. The protest will demand an end to corporate welfare, tax loopholes and a rescission of Bush Era tax cuts for the top 2%. Help make Labor Day 2011 the beginning of a National People's Movement.
As one person said in discussing the importance of WE the PEOPLE showing up in massive numbers on Labor Day 2011... "If you can, go to the Nations Capital. If you cannot make it there, go to your State Capital. If you cannot make it there, go to you local City Hall. But the important thing that day is that EVERYBODY GOES SOMEWHERE!" - quote from Steven Thomas Evans.
We the People are coming to you for help.
Ed Schultz, leaders of National Unions and our national progressive leadershipall of you are in a unique position to organize and publicize a march on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC... Please, get involved and help publicize and organize a protest in Washingto DC on Labor Day 2011, demanding an end to corporate welfare, tax loopholes and a rescission of Bush Era tax cuts for the top 2%. Make this march about demanding our Democracy back.
Right now, the Republicans on Capitol Hill are pushing draconian spending cuts that will gouge the middle class, elderly, poor and disabled. They are talking to us about "shared sacrifice". And they are willing to do this after holding middle class tax cuts hostage until President Obama gave in to their demands that the wealthy get a continuation of the Bush Era tax cuts.
It's time to descend upon Washington DC and demand real "shared sacrifice". It's time to demand a rescission of the Bush Era Tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%.
Right now a genuine grass-roots movement is bubbling up all over this country. A sleeping giant is waking up to the realization that our Democracy has been sold to the highest bidder. And now "We the People" are starting to do the work of taking our Democracy back from the corporate politicians. In WI, IN, OH, MI and other states all over the Union "We the people" are showing up and demanding that our governments listen to us.
It's time to take this show to Washington, DC... and we need your help. If Wisconsinites can consistently get 100,000 people to show up in Madison, then "we the people" of this country aught to be able to get a million people to show up in Washington DC and demand an end to Corporate welfare, corporate tax loopholes and a rescission of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans.
Thank you for leading the way and helping us take our Democracy back. We appreciate it.
The WE the PEOPLE Petition is being closed out - almost 5000 people signed. Thank you to all of you who signed and for leaving your comments. I read each and every one of them.
Before filling you in on Labor Day 2011 plans - there is something else you should know. All along this effort has been about building nationwide non-violent PEOPLE's movement. PEOPLE are rising up all over the country. But, the goal here, is to build a movement so massive that it can no longer be ignored. To that end I have been working on another project and am inviting each and every one of the almost 5000 people who signed this petition to participate as "founding members" in the Beta testing stage of WE are the Democracy - http://www.wearethedemocracy.com
Personally, I've 20 years worth of database development experience. And although I've never worked with web databases the need for a more effective networking and organizing tool than facebook has prompted me to take the plunge. WE are the Democracy is my attempt to create an on-line organizing community. This board has been established for the purpose of facilitating communication, networking and organization throughout the seedling PEOPLE's movement.
Already - The Beer Party has signed on as a participating organization. As other participating organizations sign on - they will also receive their own forums - just as the Beer Party has.
This model will enable people from all across the spectrum of activism to communicate with each other. It will provide a place for everyday folks to connect with leaders of activist organizations. It will allow activists from all over the nation to participate in the discussions with each other, plan together, learn from each other and in the end this model will help build a National PEOPLE's Movement which is so large it cannot be ignored.
I hope you will take the time to review the We are the Democracy site - http://www.wearethedemocracy.com - and help move this from a beta testing stage into full production.
Now onto Labor Day 2011 - the National AFL-CIO has invited us to join them for their Labor Day celebrations. On Labor Day - all over America - the AFL will be calling on our elected leaders to listen to the voiceless, the jobless and the hopeless, not those with the biggest megaphones, the most money, the most power.
If you would like to find a Labor Day event near you - simply go to this link: http://local.we-r-1.org/weareone.
Again - thank you for signing the We the PEOPLE petition. An email can not convey at all - how deeply grateful I am for each and every signature and comment. As I worked on this project - your comments and signatures (and the help you gave in promoting it) lifted me up and reminded me that WE the PEOPLE will win this fight - it can't be helped WE are the ones who have hopes and aspirations for America. Corporate money cannot hope - it is just a thing - it is not timeless and it is not bigger than us. WE are bigger than it - we are the ones with the power. We must simply organize ourselves and user our power and the goals we seek will unfold.
In Peace - Rose
Keep up the great work. Look what you've accomplished!
