YWCA Stands for Justice

Target:
Kathleen Blanco Governor of Louisiana
Sponsored by:

Six young African American men residing in Jena Louisiana: Mr. Mychal Bell, Mr. Bryan Purvis, Mr. Theo Shaw, Mr. Carwin Jones and another yet to be identified individual, have been aggressively prosecuted by the District Attorney for a fight that happened last December at Jena High School with a white student.

The fight was the culmination of racially charged events, including the hanging of a noose on a tree in the school yard by three white students which was labeled nothing more than a 'prank'.  And though the white student was hospitalized for a few hours with minor injuries the District Attorney charged the young African American men with second degree attempted murder.

Substantial questions have been raised regarding the application of justice in this case.  Please sign the petition to the Governor of Louisiana asking her to investigate and monitor the cases against these 6 young men.

We the undersigned are concerned about the Jean 6 case in Jena, Louisiana. Substantial questions have been raised regarding the District Attorney and his prosecutorial judgment in this case. There is also concern regarding the ability of the Jena 6 to recieve a fair and impartial jury. As the Governor of Louisiana we are urging you to use your position to investigate and monitor the criminal cases against the Jena 6 to ensure that these young men receive equal treatment under the law.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important civil rights matter.

I find it incredible that in this day and age, the degree of blatant and cruel treatment of other human beings is egregious, shames our country, and only sets our civilization back into the dark ages; worse, as aren't we supposed to be educated? Louisiana legislators, please take control of your state, and lets have one less shameful issue in our country. May God Bless You.

United we stand, divided we fall. As one united voice we are calling out to the powers that be to correct the injustice that has occured in Jena. Even though now it is after the height of the attention to this case the fight is still not over. This is not about balck or white this is about right and wrong. The severity of the punsihment given did not match the crime. If these students are to be charged like men then they should be given the constitutional rights of ALL men, which is the right to a fair and speedy trial and judged by a jury of thier peers. Don't just let the words look good on paper, let's live them and act upon them. As a leader you have a role to represent the people. Please be the change in you community today.

Since we (black people) have been so called free (slavery)we have yet to be treated equally in the justice system etc. It is time for another civil rights march, because we have lost our way from the things that Dr. Martin Luther King has died and fought for. We as black people and all people need to recognize that something is wrong in our society with the constant mistreatment of black people in the great United States of American, who is always constantly preaching FREEDOM AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (EXCEPT BLACK PEOPLE)!!!!!!
